Del Piero wants more Scudetto glory for Juventus but uncertain about his future
Alessandro Del Piero is one of the few legends left from Italy’s once invincible squad. The 37-year-old forward, who has been in Turin for the past many years, was exuberant after Juventus scored Scudetto glory.
Juventus finally brought the Serie A Cup to Turin this year. It has been a long wait for the Old Lady of Italy, but Juventus has finally managed to win the Serie A title in spite of all the troubles they have been through over the last decade.
Juventus won their last Serie A title in 2003. Del Piero was a legend in Italian football back then and still is. The aging striker admits that the Serie A title has left a special taste of glory in his mouth.
In an interview to Sky Sports Italia, Del Piero told reporters that although winning the Serie A title had left him with hunger for more; the time is in appropriate for him to think about his future.
Del Piero also confessed that it felt good end the trophy drought at Turin. The last silverware to enter Juventus’ trophy case came around five years ago. This shows how important Scudetto glory has been to Juventus this season.
“This Scudetto has a special taste after some difficult years and I'd go as far as to say that this Scudetto is even better than the one we achieved in Rimini [Serie B title in 2007],” said Del Piero.
“I start every season with the hope of winning something, and sometimes it doesn't happen, but what has happened to me tonight makes up for many years [of failing to win a trophy].
“Tonight we are celebrating a championship that we all deserve and I'm glad to have contributed.”
No one knows what’s going through Del Piero’s mind right now. The former Italy international, Del Piero refused to talk about his career soon after the game against Trieste.
“In 15 days we have another game that we want to win [the Coppa Italia final against Napoli], but it will be a strange ending,” Del Piero noted.
“On my part there is a willingness to smile and nothing else right now. There will be time to discuss [my future].”
Del Piero has scored 289 goals for Juventus in 703 appearances. The aging striker continues to score for Juventus which is why he is still a regular feature in Juventus first team.
