Denver Bronco’s general manager John Elway broke the news on Wednesday, announcing the trade of cornerback Cassius Vaughn for Indianapolis Colts’ fullback Chris Gronkowski.

"Our team has a lot of depth in the secondary and this is an opportunity for us to add a quality fullback to our roster," announced John Elway via twitter.

The Denver Broncos had their needs fulfilled in the cornerback department with the signing of fourth round pick Omar Bolden, as well as undrafted free agents Drayton Florence and Tracy Porter.

In fact, the Denver Broncos hit an excess of cornerback with their offseason signing and were eyeing the field for a fullback. The Denver Bronco’s former fullback Spencer Larsen had found a new home with the New England Patriots after he was released as a free agent. Austin Sylvester was the Denver Bronco’s other fullback, but he does not satisfy the job as he has no prior experience in the NFL.

The loss of Chris Gronkwoski will not weigh heavily on the Indianapolis Colts as the fullback is replaceable and mostly assisted in blocking. He appeared in only seven games for the Indianapolis Colts in 2011 and was acquired through a trade with the Dallas Cowboys. With the Dallas Cowboys, Chris Gronkwoski made 5 receptions for 17 yards in 2010.

On the other hand, the Indianapolis Colts focused on improving their linemen and even drafted a quarterback in the 2012 Draft. Since last season, the Indianapolis Colts had been having problems with regards to their cornerback. The Indianapolis Colts have no depth in the secondary and lack experienced players.

The addition of Cassius Vaughn could do wonders for the Indianapolis Colts, as apart from the cornerback issue, the former Denver Broncos’ player can also fill in as a reliable passer.

However, Cassius Vaughn who was acquired in 2010 as an undrafted free agent, has only appeared in nine games for the Denver Broncos with three early season starts throughout 2011. Cassius Vaughn went out with an injured fibula late in the season and consequently made it on the Denver Broncos’ Injured Reserve list. Still he picked off an intercept to score a touchdown in the season.

In Cassius Vaughn’s three-seasons with the Denver Broncos, he appeared in 22 games, made 22 tackles in addition to a touchdown on a reception. Cassius Vaughn’s rookie season had remained relatively uneventful as in the span of 13 games, he made no reception.

Nevertheless, it does not look like the Denver Broncos are done shaking up the roster for they have eyes on cornerback Justin King. The former Saint Louis Rams cornerback was at a workout for the Denver Broncos and even though no evident talks of inking a contract have been held, still the Denver Broncos might look into this opportunity.
