The Detroit Tigers pulled out an incredible 6-4 victory in extra innings on Saturday night. They struggled at times, particularly closer Jose Valverde, but they still managed to squeak out the win. That, however, is not the story of the night.
The big story that you'll hear all over Sportscenter and other media outlets is the news that Derek Jeter fractured his left ankle and will miss the remainder of the postseason.
Tomorrow's game will be the first Yankees playoff game sans Jeter since October 8, 1995.
The Yankees shortstop, Captain, and leadoff hitter is done for the year.
The injury isn't career threatening, but many believe that it's World Series threatening for the Yankees.
Do you think the Yankees can win a World Series without Derek Jeter?

True, however if they don't miss the call at 1st in Game 1 with Cano at least 1 run scores since bases were loaded at the time. That means it would not have been 4-0 in the 9th.

I won't deny that I have a heavy anti-Yankees bias. But I believe I focused pretty heavily on Jeter's injury here, did I not?
You did, Pat. Just an observation from an outsider.

Is that really what I acted like? I don't know if there's a single rational soul who would agree with you there.

The umpiring is the least of the Yankees problems. Their stars (Cano, Granderson, Swisher and A-Rod) have been MIA offensively since the playoffs started

If I hear Ernie Johnson say this is great baseball again I think I might hurl. The Yanks/Orioles and now this series has been average pitching with a lot of mediocre and even terrible offense.

Jeter's injury is big news for sure, however both teams have been met with some very bad umpiring. The home plate umpire in game 1 must have been going out of his way to show TBS that their K zone was worthless because he never came close to calling it the way it was shown. The 1st base umpire calls Cano out on the ball that hurt Fister's arm and now in game 2 the Tigers get a run after Cano tags out Infante at 2nd base, but Jeff Kellog the 2nd base ump calls him safe. The Yankees could help themselves by simply putting balls in play when 2 guys are on and nobody is out. Granderson, Swisher and A-Rod have all forgotten how to do anything but swing for the fences.

It's amazing how you go out of your way to take digs at the Yankees. You act like winning game 1 of a 7 game series is a bigger story than losing Jeter. Good thing you don't work in sports tv.

If CC Sabathia were pitching 4 of the 7 games, i think they'd have a chance. Unfortunately, for Yankee fans, he can't

I don't think the Yankees could win the world series this season WITH Derek Jeter.
