Derrick Favors Gets $49 Million Extension
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports,
"Derrick Favors has reached agreement on a four-year, $49 million-plus contract extension with the Utah Jazz, league sources told Yahoo Sports. The deal includes bonus incentives that could push the package well over $50 million, sources said. …With ideal size at 6-foot-10 and 250 pounds, and merely the age of a college senior, Favors could’ve commanded a $13 million annual salary from several teams in restricted free agency next summer.”
At the young age of twenty-two, Favors has done little to merit such a contract extension. However, the Utah Jazz strongly feel like Favors has just scratched the surface of his potential. Therefore, the extension isn’t so much a reward for what he has done, but an extension based upon what he will do.
If the number three pick can take advantage of his new starting opportunity with Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap out of the picture, he will be worth every penny of his new extension. If not, he will be yet another player who had a lot of potential, but failed to reach it.
