Blog Photo - Derrick Rose says he'll play in the Bulls' first gameIt might be a bit later than most Chicago fans were hoping for, but Derrick Rose says he'll be ready to play in the Bulls' season opener, a mere 18 months after the ACL injury that caused him to miss the entire 2012-13 season.

"I should be able to play in the first game. I know I'm anxious right now to play. My health is everything right now, it's 100 percent. But right now, the first game... I definitely will be playing it. We will play in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil [October 12], the first NBA game ever in Rio, so that's going to be a big game not only for the Bulls but for the NBA. Just some minutes out there, see how it feels just to be back on the court and enjoy the experience."

As Doug Thonus of Chicago Bulls Confidential points out, it's about damn time. And this should, at the very least, reduce the amount of time it takes Rose to get back to 100%, compared to other players with similar injuries.

Since Rose got 6-10 months more recovery time than most players who suffer an ACL injury, he shouldn't need to ramp back up to speed like most players do. He should be very close to 100% as soon as he takes the court in an actual game.

If he's not, that might say an awful lot about his determination and preparedness. At this point, the former league MVP has something to prove. Bulls fans will have high expectations for this coming season, and he'll definitely want to live up to them.
