Or was it the Suns who made the statement? The statement that it's going to take a while to get this Diesel fueled machine fine tuned. Despite a solid performance from Phoenix on Friday night, where Shaq did exactly what he needed to do -- 14 rebounds -- the Suns looked anything like their usual selves this afternoon. They looked like a team without any idea what to do on offense, but that is forgivable. Shaq insisted he didn't want Nash and Co. to adjust to him, but that he just wanted to fit in. Today, the Suns wanted to get Shaq involved on offense which just can't happen anymore.
But let's stop talking about the Suns, how about Detroit?
Some of you may have already been on board, but I've officially jumped the Boston ship and climbed onto the Pistons. Up 30 throughout on the Suns!? It doesn't matter what they've got going on, that's impressive. Even the bench was outperforming. And what I find most deserving of attention is the fact Detroit almost always seems to step up when the stakes get higher, when national TV is looking, etc.
6 players in double figures; Maxiell, Wallace and McDyess dominated the boards, with Chauncey, Rip and Prince hitting the open looks. That's Deeeetroit basketball for you. Consider me impressed and I don't think it's a stretch to keep considering an Eastern Conference NBA Champ.
Detroit 116, Phoenix 86
