Apr 18, 2014; Boston, MA, USA; Detroit Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard (35) makes a save during the first period against the Boston Bruins in game one of the first round of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs at TD Banknorth Garden. Mandatory Credit: Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY SportsKelly Rothe is a 20-year old Red Wings fan and junior at Eastern Michigan University. When she was 9, she lost her mother to breast cancer. She also carries a gene that leaves her with an 87% chance of getting breast cancer herself.

Due to that, Rothe has made the very difficult decision to undergo a double mastectomy as a preventative measure against breast cancer.

Her favorite player is Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard, and the Red Wings wanted to give her a special day before her surgery.

So Howard and the Red Wings did just that.
