Any thought of the Tigers finally getting on track was derailed two pitches into Justin Verlander's nationally televised start. Nick Swisher bombed a pitch down the left line. It didn't get much better after that.
Detroit grounded into FIVE double-plays and Verlander was on the mound for 9 White Sox runs (only 4 earned). When your best pitcher throws even more fuel on the fire you've got issues. A three game sweep at the hands of Kansas City could have been a fluke. Three more at home to Chicago and it's clear the Tigers have some serious issues. Who's to blame? Drew Sharp isn't willing to single anyone out.
Here's what we do know, after the 13-2 loss Sunday night, baseball history has eliminated the Tigers from any postseason celebrations.
Big Hurts the Red Sox Josh Beckett loaded the bases in the 5th, so Terry Francona turned to Many Delcarmen who turned and watched a Frank Thomas grand slam (video above). Boston finally gets to head home now and start over on Tuesday. 3-4 isn't all that bad considering the travel requirements they've been forced to endure. Blue Jays 7, Red Sox 4
Your 1st place Orioles That's right, Detroit is 0-6 and Baltimore is 4-1 after a successful sweep of the Seattle Mariners. Former O was scratched from his scheduled start Sunday, which moved Felix Hernandez into action. Fortunately, he was able to pitch just 8 innings. Scoreless until the 9th, Baltimore strung together five hits, the last of witch plated Jay Payton on a Luis Hernandez single.
