Devean George Forgets He's Devean George

Jason Kidd may end up a Dallas Maverick before the trade deadline, but as of now, he's still a New Jersey Net because a back up forward averaging 3.6 points per game used a clause in his contract to block the trade.

Devean George, who earlier in the year stated his desire to get more playing time even if it meant suiting up with a worse team, was given that opportunity yesterday. A move to the Nets gives George (who deserves to have an "i" thrown into his name) a chance at that playing time he's requested to assist in conning some poor GM into a bigger contract.

Dude, you're Devean George. Appropriately, the Mavs back up forward went 0-11 last night, yet in the interview (thanks to Odenized) above he talks like a guy who deserves much more. He speaks of his "tiny contract," which is $2.8 million this season; plenty of money for someone averaging 3.6 point per game.

Hopefully this trade still goes down in the end with George and his agent remembering exactly who they are. You're not a 'bad guy,' just a bad player.

The true travesty here is that someone would actually allow Devean George to have a no-trade clause written into his contract.  The only reason you sign a dude like this is to round him up with three other similar dudes and trade them to get one dude in return that can actually play.   Oops.

It has something to do with a provision that is all Early Bird NBA contracts. Kobe Bryant is the only player who actually has a no-trade clause in his contract.

I believe it was Jubanator who explained how the Early Bird provision works in another thread (the original one dealing with the trade).

The funny this is the only way George can actually use his Bird rights, is he re-signs with the Mavs.  Think the Mavs really want to re-sign him if he pulls this stunt?

I agree. I don't think the Mavs will resign him now. I was watching his 0-11 performance and saw him miss his first 2 free throws and said to a friend, sarcastically, "Well, we just locked him up for another year!" The only reason I can logically think of for the Mavs to keep him would be for his defense. I'm still not sure why Dallas insists on playing defense. Every time we try to play defense we lose, when we try to out score the opponent we win most of the time. Ok, back on topic.

George has finally pissed the Dallas fan base off. He used to be one of those guys we could learn to like whether we wanted to or not. Now he has officially ruined it for himself, his team, and his fans. In high school we had a saying. "Don't embarrass yourself, your family, or the Wylie Pirates Dallas Mavericks." In one fell swoop George has done it all.

Looks like Devean picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.

The next fortune cookie Devean cracks open should have the following message,

"Tiny contracts for those of tiny talent"

or

"The D League is in your future"

At 36% FG would indicate he's, in fact, not one of the best shooters on the team.

He was good for some spot up threes on those Lakers teams, and now that's all he can cling to.

George is one of those players that's not limited to the jumper. That's about it. He plays defense well, usually. If he needs to shoot the 3, nobody's saying "Oh gosh, here's a miss" like they would if Brandon Bass would have taken that same shot.

Kobe is the only player in the league with a specific no-trade clause in his contract, league rules dictate that players on a one-year contract -- but who are also eligible for Early Bird free-agent rights at the end of the contract -- cannot be traded without their consent. The Bird rights basically give the teams the ability to sign George to a contract that would take them over the salary cap, and if he is traded he loses those rights, and therefore lose that more than likely huge pay day this summer.

There is the abridged version of what I put last night.

Basically, George wants to get paid big time this summer and since teams can sign him to a big pay day over the Salary Cap, he is more likely to be a "big time" free agent this summer since he is a vet that could fill a role on some contending team.

Only Dallas has the Bird rights.  If he's traded to New Jersey he loses those.

Are you serious dude???  You think trading Devin Harris and Stack for Kidd is a good move?  Kidd is 146 years old and Harris is finally starting to come around.  Don't you think that the Mavs would be better off to hang on to Harris and win three or four titles over the next 6 years instead of winning one title this year andthen burying Kidd in the backyard??

I say WIN NOW!... We were in the finals 2 years ago, and we choked. Obviously we need more experience running the plays. With Kidd and Terry in the backcourt, how can we fail? Yes, if the theory was to win over the next 10 years... then keep Diop and Harris. Obviously Cuban wants to win now. Otherwise he wouldn't give up both Diop and Harris.

OK...How do you feel about the trade now??

Kidd appears to have not been the saviour Dallas was looking for and now Avery is gone.

I still like the trade.  Harris is a scrub, and always will be. With Harris out of the picture, we'll be able to work out the other PGs. Barea, and co.

Since when does 14 points and 6 assists from your PG make him a scrub?  Oh, thats right never.  It was a historically awful trade and Dallas will continue to regret for many many years.

I'm still not regretting it. Which part of Dallas do you live in? Oh, that's right!

Where you live in Dallas should have absolutely no bearing on whether or not you like the trade.  I actually live just north east of Plano and have season tickets in the Platinum club level for the Mavericks and Stars.  I tend to agree with the young Laker fan from WI.  It was a bad trade.  Kidd did absolutely nothing for us and may have two years left on his old a$$ to give us....MAYBE.    Besides that George was not the Devon in this trade that made it completely stupid on the part of Mark Cuban.  He dropped Devon Harris and 2 first round picks to get a washed up ready to retire PG that did nothing to once again keep us from advancing past the first round.

I live in Plano... Therefor I'm actually closer :P... I still think it was a good deal, but I guess I don't really care anymore.

Oh, and a sidenote... Royse City is directly East... if not South East of Plano.

You would be correct.  Royce City proper is actually South East of Plano.    I do not actually live in Royse City proper.  I am in Royse City by post office address only.  My physical address is located just south of Hwy 6 in Nevada which would in fact put me just north east of Plano as I stated previously.  Thanks for pointing that out though.

Apparently both of our profiles lie since yours says you live in Wylie and you claim to live in Plano and mine says I live in Royse City and I claim to live north east of Plano.....dang the bad luck.

Anytime pal.....I just always love it when someone that doesn't know me wants to try and tell me where I live.  Had to go off.  I apologize.

LOL, yeah. I moved to Plano 2 years ago, and haven't changed my profile yet... /sigh

You stated where you lived, it was just incorrect. I was actually going to guess Lavon, Parker County, Nevada area before I read your profile.

Wow, if that's going off... You have a lot to learn about this site, bud. LOL

Oh, and I wouldn't call that just NE of Plano either. HWY 6 is quite a bit of a drive.

I never said Royse City on this thread man.  Go back and read the original comment that you responded to.

I guess it depends on where in Plano you are.  I am less than 20 minutes from my brother's house which is in East Plano and it really is only a heckuva drive because you have to go south to get around the lake.

Well, I read your profile before you said where you lived. So, technically you did (like me) say where you lived. It was just a bit misleading. This is what I read "Larry
Royse City, TX
Male 37 years old"

Also, I live in East Plano. I live right off of 14th street and 544

Son of a B*! 14th is 544... I mean 14th and Jupiter.
