Dez Bryant allegedly smacks his mom up
We hear of off-field domestic violence in pro sports on a disturbingly frequent basis. But dude, seriously... your own mother?
The details of the alleged Dez Bryant assault aren't pretty -- his mother claims that Bryant smacked her in the face, pulled her hair, ripped her clothing, and "hit her across the face with his ball cap". The 911 call is available online at ESPN, and it's not particularly uplifting to listen to. A distressed Angela Bryant actually uses the phrase, "He tried to kill me."
Bryant has had more than a few run-ins with the law. He was suspended for his junior season at Oklahoma State for lying to the NCAA about his meetings with Deion Sanders. Bryant has been sued over unpaid jewelry debts, and even had a nightclub fight with Lil Wayne this past January.
Dez Bryant, I'd be a lot cooler with all of this violence if some of it were directed at Chris Brown.
Bryant, who has actually has no prior arrests, was supposed to be cleaning up his act this season. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said of Bryant earlier this year, "He certainly is different as far as his maturity and as far as his understanding of what it takes to play in the National Football League than when he got here."
In Bryant's defense, his mother gave birth to him while still a teenager, and he had a less-than-ideal upbringing. His mother has a long string of convictions on crack cocaine charges.
That argument is probably not going to help him with Dallas prosecutors, though. Bryant is currently out on a $1500 bond.
