You'll see some reports this morning about Larry Johnson backing off his holdout threat. Well played, Carl Peterson, well played.Priest Holmes may have a true desire to comeback, but I'm on the same page as *gasp* Jason Whitlock this morning. This is a business ploy from Chiefs management, urging and encouraging Holmes to report to camp. His career numbers are just enough to provide a wakeup call to Larry Johnson. But let's not mistake this as Peterson truly believing Priest is going to be an effective running back and replacement. He's 33 and hasn't played in a year-and-a-half.
Let's see what happens over the weekend at Chiefs camp. Holmes will participate in light drills, keeping him away from contact, he'll look fresh, etc. Local and national writers will say that Priest is more than capable of playing this season, and then Johnson worried about his place will report to camp.
If Johnson can leverage withholding his talents against the organization, Peterson can play that game too by dangling a seemingly capable replacement with a big name. Well done, Carl.
September 9th, Larry Johnson will be the starting running back.
