Dirk Nowitzki will miss the next 6 weeks and 13 games of the regular season after receiving knee surgery later this week. The 34-year-old forward missed the first three games of the preseason after his knee continued to swell up on him even after it was drained.
"If it's going to keep swelling up on me, that's obviously not a way to go throughout an 82-game season and hopefully long playoff run," Nowitzki said.
Dirk was hoping to avoid surgery until the end of this upcoming season, but after icing his knee with low-impact workouts, the Mavericks medical staff decided that Dirk needed to have his knee scoped out sooner than later.
This isn't as bad as it sounds for Mavericks fans, but with a brand new roster, it may take them longer to build a cohesive chemistry once a healthy Dirk Nowitzki does come back.
