Dirk Nowitzki made an unexpected return Sunday evening against the San Antonio Spurs. Nowitzki only scored 8 points in 20 minutes of play, but the good news for Mavs fans is that their franchise player is back.
"I tried to give it a go. Before the game I felt decent, so I said I'm going to give it a go," Nowitzki said. "I knew my minutes were going to be limited, but I just gave it a go. In the middle of the third we were down by 80, so I didn't really have to go back in.”
The Mavs were obviously not down by eighty points, but Dirk’s hyperbole does show how bad the Mavs have been playing. The Mavs have an entirely different roster from their championship team, but the one constant for this organization has always been Dirk.
After the game, Dirk said, “I felt actually good out there. I thought the wind was OK, but my legs were a little heavy there after a couple of trips up and down but I thought I fought through it OK."
If you’re a Mavs fan, this is probably the best news that you could’ve received this holiday season. Dirk is back. And along with that, should be a lot more W’s.
