The Dodgers left the LA Coliseum in 1961 and returned for the first time last night to play the Boston Red Sox in a bizarre exhibition game. One thing stayed the same since they last played baseball in this venue: Vin Scully.
As you can tell from Scully's intro, the dimensions of baseball in the Coliseum have changed a bit, namely that ridiculous left field "wall."
In 1961, the left field wall stood 250 ft down the line with a 42-foot screen. Last night, left field was a little league-esque 201 feet. 65-foot screen or not, most of the 115, 000 in attendance could probably hit a home run themselves. Consider that the dimension in the Little League World Series run 225 feet to left.
In the 7th inning James Looney slapped what would have been a routine fly out to left field. Not last night.
