Dwayne Wade stood in front his locker room, after the Miami Heat's loss to the Boston Celtics, and took questions from the media.
Wade was wearing black Buddy Holly hipster glasses without any lenses. The fashion accessory felt like an odd choice after a pivotal game five loss that very well may have swung the series in Boston's favor.
The Heat superstar answered questions with the resigned look of a man who has accepted his own fate. The interview came off as if Wade didn't even believe the words coming out of his own mouth. And it begs the question; do the Heat even care anymore? Or has basketball simple become a paycheck for them?
Can a man that willing looked in the mirror after a crucial loss and was more interested in making a statement with his bold fashion choices than with his play during the game be someone who is still invested in these playoffs?
I am fully aware that this generation of NBA players has a different sense of self than superstars of the past, but not even Russell Westbrook, one of the boldest dressers in the NBA, wears outlandish outfits after a loss. Wade meeting with the media in an outfit that will overshadow anything coming out of his mouth belittles the game itself.
Wade’s interview left the impression that he is already packing his bags for a summer vacation before his obligation to the Olympics. I just hope his sunglasses have lenses in them this time.
