Don Imus Says He Was Being Sarcastic with Pacman Jones Comments; Pacman Responds
In All Honesty, We Probably Shouldn't Be Paying Attention To Either Of These Guys
READ MORE:
As you no doubt remember, Don Imus had some interesting words yesterday when talking about Adam "Pacman" Jones. To most people out there, Imus' comments were blatantly racist, in that they suggested that black men were often criminals.

But of course there are two sides to every story, by which I mean Imus was able to find a Clinton-esque excuse. As in, I didn't quite say what you thought I said.

Imus claims his comments were "sarcastic."

And today on his radio show, Imus said "What people should be outraged about is that they arrest blacks for no reason. There's no reason to arrest this kid six times, I mean maybe he did something once but everybody does something once -- I have. ... They shoot blacks for no reason."

By the way, if you believe that excuse, you're an idiot. Why? Let's have Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting explain:
Imus himself has referred to African-American journalist Gwen Ifill as "a cleaning lady," to New York Times sports reporter Bill Rhoden as "quota hire" and to tennis player Amelie Mauresmo as "a big old lesbo." Imus called Washington Post reporter Howard Kurtz a "boner-nosed... beanie-wearing Jewboy," referred to a disabled colleague as "the cripple," and to an Indian men's tennis duo as "Gunga Din and Sambo." In Imus' words, the New York Knicks are "chest-thumping pimps."

Imus' on again/off again sidekick Sid Rosenberg was temporarily fired in 2001 for calling tennis player Venus Williams an "animal" and remarking that the Williams sisters—Venus and her tennis player sister Serena—would more likely be featured in National Geographic than in Playboy.

So no, I don't believe Imus at all.

As for Pacman, who is quickly becoming the model of super clean living (see Don, that's how you be sarcastic), he told the Dallas Morning News that, "I'm truly upset about the comments. Obviously Mr. Imus has problems with African-Americans. I'm upset, and I hope the station he works for handles it accordingly. I will pray for him."

I'm going to be honest, I'm not sure I'd want Pacman praying for me.

Anyway, as of last night, EPSN said Imus wasn't going to be suspended. That could of course change, but I don't think it really matters anyway. The correct thing to do is just shut off your radio.

I agree completely!  The sooner we, as fans, stop paying attention to these assholes both on the field and in the broadcast booths, they will have no forum for their knowingly made stupid and racist comments.  Both of them are has-beens still trying to hold on to their 15 minutes of fame...

Amen..

No one ever hears anything about this guys unless he stirs the pot himself with some of his commentary, usually racially motivated.  Seriously, since the whole Rutgers thing what have you heard about Imus?  Not a thing, thats what..  Who cares what this old guy has to say about anything?  Let him live out his years talking all the trash he wants to, to all three of his loyal listeners.  This guy has no voice to me.  And no one takes him seriously..  So where does his platform come from?

Imus will say anything for attention. I really believe that he would insult his own mother if he thought he could get 3 0r 4 days of outraged publicity from it.  It's hard to believe someone can have their ego stroked by such behavior. As long as people write and talk and get upset by him he will keep it up.  If we stop he will "mean mouth " away into ugly nothingness.
