I swear we've watched this story unfold before our eyes before. Talented, energetic young left-handed pitcher storms onto the big league scene and has immediate success. Then without much rhyme or reason, he can't find the strikezone and barely passes as a major league talent. Yes, Dontrelle Willis is pulling an even more dramatic Rick Ankiel.
Jim Leyland and the Tigers organization effectively pushed the restart button on D-Train's career yesterday when they demoted him back to the minors. Not to AAA, nor AA, but single-A Lakewood (FL). However, this appears harsher than it actually may be. If Willis were sent to three of the Tigers other minor league establishments they'd all be within driving distance of Detroit and under the microscope of local media. Thus, GM Dave Dombroski essentially offered that Lakewood would offer Dontrelle the most support.
Either way, it's a stunning demotion considering where Willis was just a short time ago. A 2003 National League Rookie of the Year award was followed by his 22-win season in 2005 which led the majors. He was an all-star in both of those campaigns. Now he's being asked to start over again after walking 21 batters in 11 innings so far this season.
Any chance Willis can hit?
Meanwhile, the guy that came over from Florida this winter with Dontrelle, Miguel Cabrera, helped the Tigers end Chicago's seven game winning streak on a 3-for-4 night. Sweet relief. Tigers 6, White Sox 4

Thanks For All The Run Support I don't know whether it's a result of C.C. Sabathia eating all the pre-game food by himself and leaving his teammates famished or something else, but the Indians don't give their Cy Young pitcher any run support. 2.1 runs in the last nine outings. Tuesday night, C.C. figured he'd need a shutout so that's what he did. Indians 1, Twins 0
Oh, PUjols Alberto homered in the 3rd inning, but in the 7th he crumbled into a big heap after re-aggravating a left calf strain. It would appear quite serious as he needed to be helped off the field, and the Cardinals called up Chris Duncan after the game. A lengthy absence could put a dent in St. Louis' remarkable start, but who needs Pujols when you have Ryan Ludwick. Yes, Ryan Ludwick who continues to tear the cover off the ball. 4-for-5 last night with four more RBI's, good enough for a win. Cards 7, Reds 2
