Dortmund star Mats Hummels to join Barcelona this summer
Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has agreed to join Barcelona if the La Liga leaders approach with a transfer offer. The Germany international claims he is ready to join Barcelona at the table to discuss the possibility of moving to Nou Camp in the near future.
The 24-year-old center-back has been linked with a move to Barcelona for over a year now. In recent months speculation of Mats Hummels transfer have increased tenfold. With Barcelona looking to find a successor for Carles Puyol, only a few names have been nominated as possible candidates for the legend’s replacement.
Mats Hummels and his partner Neven Subotic are hot-favorites for the job, although Paris Saint-Germain center-back Thiago Silva has won a lot of interest as well. Spanish media outlet, Mundo Deportivo claims the deal for Mats Hummels is set for the summer transfer window.
According to German sport newspaper Sport Bild, Mats Hummels’ father Hermann, who is also the defender’s agent, is considering moving to Barcelona. Hermann usually snubs all transfer interest, but is thinking twice before calling out on Blaugrana.
“My father and I reject 99.9% of the teams, from all over the world, when they come to us,” Mats Hummels said. “But Barcelona is one of two or three clubs who I would consider maybe signing for.”
The traditional defender is contract with Borussia Dortmund until June 2017. Mats Hummels claims he is happy at Borussia Dortmund, therefore he was in no hurry to take decisions about his future.
“I would study it to see if it made sense to leave,” Mats Hummels said. “I am not saying I want to go.”
Presently, Barcelona possesses only one capable center-back, Gerard Pique. With Carles Puyol showing signs of exhaustion and injuries and Eric Abidal falling down to poor health, Barcelona are in dire need of signing in a center-back.
The Barcelona-bred defender Marc Bartra is expected to become a regular in the first-team. At the moment, Alex Song, Sergio Busquets and Javier Mascherano are being used as makeshift center-backs at Barcelona.
