Drive On

Well, there you go. The Hawks did me in again last night, and I've finally reached that point in the season where I'm now swearing off of them. Never again this season will I be involved on the Hawks' side. It's actually taken a little longer to get to this point this season than it has in past years. I have won a few games with Atlanta this season, but as you've probably noticed, I've also shied away from them on several occasions as well. So, it's official. I'm done with them.

I always have struggled with the Hawks, and I never really could figure out why that was. As a for instance, last night's game broke down with everything on the Atlanta side: stats, trending, a weak opponent, etc. In the past, I might have settled for the age old excuse that this is a team that "plays down" to the level of their competition. After last night's game, though, I think I've really hit the core of what the problem is for this team. As a group, they have a very low basetball IQ.

Whenever you have Josh Smith taking more 3-point shots (5) than he has FT attempts (4) in a game, that's just not smart. Everybody thinks this guy is some kind of superstar, and maybe that's part of his problem. He does too. One day he might get it through his thick skull that he's not a perimeter player, and he does his team a great disservice by thinking he is. Based on his career so far, though, I doubt that's going to happen. So, the big surprise to me is not that the Hawks lost to the Suns last night. It's more of a surprise that they've won 32 games so far this season. They do play in the east, so that doesn't hurt, but this team isn't really a threat to anybody.

THE NBA (7-5 last night and 22-24 so far for the week)

SU WINNERS (9-3 last night and 26-19 so far for the week)

Warriors, BULLS, Raptors and BLAZERS

TOTALS (8-4 last night and 26-20 so far for the week)

OVERS - Warriors/76ERS (195) and Wolves/BLAZERS (198)

UNDERS - Nets/BULLS (178) and Raptors/BUCKS (200 1/2)

BUTTA (1-1 last night and 2-6 so far for the week)

I've taken my lumps in The Association so far this week, but there's simply nothing to "get back" with on tonight's short schedule.

ALL THE REST

1. Warriors (+1) at 76ERS - The way things have been going for the Sixers, the question has to be how they could be favored against this opponent? Indeed, the Warriors look like the play, and I would go with them tonight if it weren't for the fact that this will be Golden State's 4th game in 5 nights and 5th in 7 as they close out a grueling road trip here. Warriors 103, 76ERS 94

2. Nets (+5) at BULLS - The Bulls have been "iffy" at best at home anyway so far this season, and the Nets will have Joe Johnson back in the lineup tonight. BULLS 84, Nets 82

3. Raptors (+5) at BUCKS - Things have started to level off a bit for the Dinos after a hot run while Rudy Gay was "new", but the Bucks are a hard play to make as a favorite. Milwaukee has an awful lot of defensive lapses, and that's difficult to lay points with. Raptors 93, BUCKS 88

4. Wolves (+9 1/2) at BLAZERS - I really don't have a lot to say about this game. I would have been laying the Blazers tonight with a shorter number, but this is a team that has no depth. Their key players have already logged a ton of minutes so far this season, and it's been showing in their play that this team may be worn out. BLAZERS 107, Wolves 99

Oh, and by the way: Since this is "Rip Josh Smith Day" around the world, those 5 treys he hoisted in last night's game? He bricked all of them. UGH! Have a super Saturday. Be careful out there, and I'll see you tomorrow.
