Yes, Jeremy Mayfield's coming back, but it won't be this weekend at Daytona. Having missed this afternoon's time deadline to register in person, Jeremy Mayfield won't be making his return to racing this weekend. All the same, today's press confrence inevitable turned to other drivers' opinions about having Mayfield back out on the track with them. Some were indiffrent, some were ok with it, and some tried very hard to nicely say, I don't want you out here...
“Ultimately it was the judge’s decision to turn it out how he turned it out, He’s (Jeremy Mayfield) free to race which is fine. If he’s out there on the race track with me then it doesn’t bother me. Normally we’re ahead of him anyway.”
-Kyle Busch
"I don’t know of any people, offhand, or many people that have ever had a problem with Jeremy, I don’t iknow if we’ll ever know if there’s a way to find out or not if it’s right or wrong, certainly, for some reason, if it was wrong, you feel bad for the guy because he’s been kind of crucified already. If he was in the wrong, then we’ll all want to know that, too, and want it to get worked out right so there’s no question of the drug policy going forward.”
-Matt Kenseth
“I’m totally behind NASCAR. So if he’s on the track, you have to race with him. I would say that they (fellow team-mates) are the same as me. Everybody out here wants to race and they want to race hard and race with people that are in the same state of mind that you’re
in. If people are into other things, they should go do those things by themselves and not be on a race track going 200 mph with other racers.”
-Kasey Kahne
I think the best thing is just to wait and see what the real facts are and what comes out, I think all of the speculation is damaging to both NASCAR and Jeremy, so I’ll just wait to see what comes out of it. But, I feel safe with all the drivers on the track. I don’t have any problem racing anyone.”
-Carl Edwards
