We've got two college basketball games on this evening that feature two of the best teams in the country: Duke and UCLA. Regrettably they're not playing each other, but if they both win tonight, they'll meet in the 2K Sports Classic. But before that happens, they both have to take care of business. Anyway, #5 Duke is up first against Southern Illinois, a team that has consistently been a threat in the NCAA Tourney and is looking to build its non-conference resume. I wouldn't expect them to be able to do that much against another stacked Duke squad, but sometimes teams like Duke are a little sluggish at the beginning of the year as they start to break in more McDonald's All-Americans. SIU at least has three solid players SIU in Carlton Fay (16.5 points per game) Bryan Mullins (11.5) and Kevin Dillard (11.5). Let's hope one of them at least decks Greg Paulus, who seems to have been at Duke for about 8 years now.
In Game 2, #4 UCLA goes up against Michigan, which looks to continue in its football team's steps of sucking massively. Anyway I know nothing about Michigan, but I know plenty about UCLA. Ben Howland is, in my opinion, the best college coach in the game. Some people will say, but hasn't he been to three straight Final Fours and has zero titles? Yes, but if you look at what he gets out of his squad every season, it's remarkable. UCLA is consistently the most fundamentally sound team in college, and with Darren Collison and Josh Shipp running the back court this season, don't expect anything to change. They'll miss Love and Westbrook, but Howland will make sure they don't miss them that much.
As always, chat up the games here with everyone.
