The Magic are actively trying to work out a trade for Dwight Howard
Now, the Magic are doing their best to get him out of town, shopping him around to several teams in the hopes of finding the best possible deal.
ESPN's Chris Broussard is reporting that the Nets are offering 3 first round draft picks, Brook Lopez and Kris Humphries in exchange for Howard, and possibly Hedo Turkoglu.
A deal like that would likely result in the Nets having their own "Big 3" of Howard, Joe Johnson and Deron Williams.
That might actually be a better Big 3 than the trio in Miami, simply because they would complement each other's skill sets a little better. The Heat really don't have a true point guard or a big man, while the Magic would have one of the best in the league at each spot, along with a very good pure scorer in Johnson.
Despite Howard's desire to end up in Brooklyn, it's likely that the Magic could get a more attractive offer from several other teams.
The Lakers could offer Andrew Bynum in a potential deal, and the Hawks could offer Al Horford and Jeff Teague.
The Nets' offer is actually a terrible one for the Magic, since they'd be getting a few players who would be grossly overpaid in Lopez and Humphries (after a sign-and-trade) and they'd be getting 3 first round picks that would most likely be near the end of the first round.
Considering the fact that Howard is easily one of the 5 best players in the league, that's not really the kind of deal that would be in the Magic's favor.
Fortunately for them, they don't necessarily have to acquiesce to Dwight's request that he be sent to Brooklyn. Once he's out of town, he's not their problem anymore, and I'm pretty sure that's what they want at this point.
We'll keep you posted if anything else develops, and we'll see where the league's premier big man ends up.
