In what comes as a bit of a shock, EJ Manuel, was selected by the Buffalo Bills at #16. He was thought to be the third or fourth QB off the board, but this is the NFL Draft, who knows what's going to happen.
EJ Manuel is a physically gifted prospect with a strong arm and the mobility to move around. Many expected the Bills to target Ryan Nassib, who played under current Bills coach Doug Marrone at Syracuse, but clearly they liked Manuel more.
Last year the Bills were able to develop a dangerous ground game with the explosive CJ Spiller coming into his own, which should make life easier for Manuel. They finished sixth in rushing yards per game and fourth in yards per attempt, but inconsistent quarterback play and an inability to stop the run were huge problems in 2012 and the Bills finished with a 6-10 record.
The Bills released QB Ryan Fitzpatrick after giving him a long term deal not too long ago and they are ready to move on at the position.
Earlier in the offseason, Buffalo picked up Kevin Kolb, giving them two QBs -- Kolb and Tavaris Jackson -- who have started under center in the NFL and can hold down the fort while Manuel develops.
