Out of the 122 teams in the NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL, it was the San Antonio Spurs who were voted the team of the decade. One of the primary reasons the Spurs won the award was because they’re the franchise best known for “elevating small-market success to an art form.”
Rick Pych, president of business operations for Spurs Sports & Entertainment said, “We are once again honored to receive a top ranking in ESPN’s Ultimate Standings. The reason this survey means so much to us is very simple: it’s a direct indication of how our fans feel about us. The number one priority of our organization is to provide the best possible fan experience each and every day and treat everyone we touch as family. The relationship between the Spurs organization, our fans and the San Antonio community is truly extraordinary.”
The formula for ranking the best organizations comes from a mix of ownership, coaching, bang for the buck, fan experience, and affordability. This year, the Spurs ranked 3rd behind the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Green Bay Packers as the best franchise in sports.
