Apparently MVP awards, Lombardi Trophies, Green Jackets, Stanley Cups, etc aren't enough. So ESPN takes the votes to the fans. Hence the ESPY's, named after Cecil Espy*, for his uncanny ability to show up in every pack of baseball cards I ever bought when I was young. Unfortunately, Cecil wasn't all that good, so it was always a big disappointment.
*I may or may not have made this up



Anyway, here are a few random thoughts on the 2008 ESPY's. Feel free to comment about your take on the show, if you saw it.

-Justin Timberlake was a lot better than I thought he would be.

-Candace Parker is one big dude.

-Erin Andrews is lovely.

-Greg Oden is a funny dude. Him and Dwight Howard will be a huge part in the NBA taking over the nation.

-Brendan Fraser is a huge d-bag. He's not funny, he can't act, and he was the most awkward person in the entire show. He's like the guy who tried to talk sports, but obviously has no clue what he's talking about. Except it applies to ANYTHING he talks about.

-No one in the entire room looked as bored as Victoria Beckham.

-Brett Favre is funny, but he still needs to shut up and retire.

-You know how Justin Timberlake doesn't want to talk about Memphis losing anymore? Yeah... well I don't want to see the Giants get any more awards, either.

-Adriana Lima kinda sounds like a guy.

-Nothing against the Central Washington girls, but John Lester got robbed.

-So did Landon Donovan. David Beckham the best in the MLS? How? I'm not a huge follower of the MLS, but just based on stats, no one else is, either. Donovan should have won by a landslide. Shows how much the fans know...

It's kind of a shame that Tiger Woods couldn't be there, but Will Ferrell did a good job accepting the award for him. I don't think Tiger would have wanted it any other way.
