Back, Back, Back, etc…Gone.
En Fuego.
You Can’t Stop Him, You Can Only Hope to Contain Him…
Ahh the good old days, where Sports was reported, not forced down my throat.
I’m 32, right smack dab a big part of the ESPN Era, as Dan Shanoff would say. I’ve watched my share of ESPN, remember when ESPN2 was edgy with the “extreme graphics” and Jim Rome called out Chris Jim Evert. But what happened that made them the Authority on all sports, which ones lived, and which ones died? Oh Yeah no competition.
ESPN is full of themselves. And they aren’t good anymore. Haven’t been for, I’ll say 3 years. They got to where they are with good reporting, semi-funny anchors, but anchors that knew what they were discussing, and the ability to put your highlights into one hour in the morning while got ready for work. Now I got some hacks who have two catchphrases and can type copy for 40 minutes, while the other 20 minutes is filled with lets ask semi knowledgeable former pros why Brett Favre hasn’t “officially” retired or why Riley is a moron for talking about taking Mayo at # 2. Not to mention the screen is so full of crap now you can barely see what’s on there unless you got a 50” screen, which I do realize is probably going to be close to norm in 3 years.
And the way they promote is sickening. I’m pretty sure there will be a counter at the bottom of the screen when I get home telling me how many days until their first televised NFL game (about 69 days right?) I understand they have contracts, and yes it is ok to promote, but in my humble opinion, they force feed it down my throat.
Saving Graces: Chris Fowler, who is knowledgeable on many sports, and I like PTI and ATH. Oh yeah, and the Top 10 plays. I guess with all Industries without major competition, you tend to get complacent. But I know I don’t watch ESPN unless baseball or college football is on, I’m going to stop my magazine subscription, and I guess I’ll hope for a good alternative or for ESPN to get off their asses and try to become a quality SPORTS station again.
