Reed and the Jets came to an agreement for Reed to play safety in New York, where he'll try to solidify their mediocre pass defense.

Reed struggled in the beginning of this year with the Texans, grading out as one of the worst safeties in the NFL. The Jets are hoping that he can step it up a bit and be the ball-hawk he was in past years with the Ravens.

Jets coach Rex Ryan once referred to Reed as "the best safety that's ever played," and if Reed can even come close to replicating that, he'll be extremely valuable for the Jets defense.

he won't play a full role, no one is asking him to play 60+ snaps a game at his age. considering how young the jets safeties are, im sure he can mentor them to become smarter players. he can contribute in the multi-safety and blitz packages. low risk, high reward signing. the jets secondary needs all the help it can get, and this is as good as it can get mid-season. he played in baltimore with rex and defensive coordinator dennis thurman, as well as starting safety dawan landry so there shouldn't be a long adjustment period.
