Emeka Okafor out for up to 3 months
Newly acquired Phoenix Suns center, Emeka Okafor, may be out up to three months. But interestingly enough, Okafor’s injury was not a hindrance for the trade with the Suns, it was actually the catalyst. Had Okafor been healthy, the Wizards would not have traded away Emeka Okafor for Marcin Gortat. But with Okafor’s return as late as three months away, the Wizards felt like it was imperative for them to unload him for a serviceable center.
"If Emeka didn't have the (injury) it probably wouldn't have been as imperative for us to get another big man in there. We don't know what his status will be," President Ernie Grunfeld said. "Emeka was very frustrated with his situation. There's really no timetable for him. Probably if Emeka was healthy it probably wouldn't have been as important for us to get another big man."
The Phoenix Suns, on the other hand, didn’t mind Okafor’s neck injury at all. It seems as though the Suns are okay “Riggin for Wiggins.” There are even rumors that Goran Dragic may be on the block as well, since Eric Bledsoe can play the point and Dragic still has great trade value. So, look for Okafor to play limited minutes even when he is back in a Suns uniform, as the Suns get their young players some experience and set their sights on the future.
