Sad news everyone. The great Emmitt Smith, who has entertained us for two years on ESPN with his perplexing and horrible grammar, has not had his contract renewed by ESPN.
This is tough for me because Emmitt and I both started our media careers at about the same time, Emmitt on TV, me blogging in my parents basement. As a blogger, I will always appreciate what Emmitt did for me. Anytime I ran out of material, I could always count on Emmitt to say something stupid to get me going again.
Unfortunately, ESPN did everything humanly possible to erase the neverending parade of clips of Emmitt butchering the English language that were thrown up on YouTube, but at least we have this hilarious compilation from the Jimmy Kimmel Show. But as I said, it's just a small tidbit of the greatness that was Emmitt Smith.
If you want the full version, Walter Football has compiled just an absurd amount of Emmitt quotes over from over the years. They're not in video form, but they're still awesome. My favorite quote?

We'll miss you, Emmitt. I expect you to blowed up some other line of work, no question.

Poor ole' Emmitt. No, he wasn't drunk, stoned, or anything else before each broadcast. What i'm wondering is he spent 3 yrs at gainesville, did he ever set foot in an english class? Also, does espn interview people BEFORE they do any hiring?

I wish they would get rid of bigmouth Berman and his allllll theee wayyyyy loudmouthing...Howie Long is good .. agree Shannon is cottonmouth; I always turn off know everything Sims....sometimes a knowledgeable commentator who is just a commentator and not a wanna be comedian would be greatly appreciated

Shannon sounds like he's chewing cotton when he talks. Unlike his old O line he didn't have anyone to block his Magic Johnson speaking style on air. So he basically kept puking all over Steve Young's lap and smiling sensually at Stu Scott's craaaaaaaaaaaazy eye.

I'd prefer listening to Troy Aikman and Joe Buck (who is he anyways?) over Chris Collinsworth any day! Ole Pastey (as I not-so-lovingly refer to him) gets on my last nerve. He may know football, but he has the personality of a pet rock! Hate to see Emmitt go...but as has been said already...he was a great football player..but his grammar needs some serious work.

Emmitt Smith was a great football player but having him as an analyst was torture to my ears every time he was on. My kids would always ask me if he was a special kind of person.

He was fun to watch because I don't think he realized how much he actually sucked. It's fun to watch people who suck but are naive of the extent of their suckitude.

LOL ...i knew this was gonna happen... Emmitt has his glass full before each "show". it's obvious, by the above video, what i'm talkin about. I could do somethin similar, with how he makes up words and phrases. he needs to not have so many cocktails before airtime.
