Eric Gordon Drops 33 Points In Hoosier Debut; Defense Even More Impressive
READ MORE:
This is the deepest freshman class EVER in college basketball. Thank you, David Stern for the opportunity to watch these future NBA stars for a year. Greg Oden and Kevin Durant were in their own stratosphere as far as last years class was concerned, but there's a chance this class has at least 5 that might be in the same category. Eric Gordon is without question among those.

As impressive as those 33 points were, his defense and "basketball IQ" are scary good for a true freshman playing his very first game. With Indiana down 4 points at half, Gordon's pressure D ignited a long run that results in a 99-79 Hoosiers win over Tennessee-Chattanooga. In total, Gordon was 9-15 (7-11 3PT), 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and a blocked shot.

This freshman of the year race could turn into the player of the year race.

Update: Here's some highlights if you hadn't seen them yet

Gordon's performance tonight showed the difference between him and OJ Mayo.  Gordon makes those around him better and gets victories.  OJ is out for himself and if the team wins that is fine.  Both will score a lot of points but watch as Gordon racks up W's and OJ leads in the nation in FG's attempted.

Watch out for Blake Griffin at Oklahoma. He won't get as much national love but he will be a beast this year.

I love Eric Gordon.  He'd be a perfect fit in Toronto to team up with Bosh, Bargnani and company.

He would be doing this in an Illini uniform if it weren't for one of the biggest cheats in NCAA history.

Thanks a lot Kelvin Sampson.

Eric Gordon? To quote Deron Williams, I don't know who that is.

He is going to be awfully fun to watch this year.  Gordon's athleticism is off the charts and I think he seems to be a guy who takes pride in his D, so he might be the best all-around freshman in the country.

I still dont' know if this year's freshman class will be as good as last year's though.  Sure, you have Beasley, Rose, Gordon, Love, and Mayo.  But last year you had Durant, Augustin, Budinger, Conley, Oden, Collins, Lawson, Wright, Scottie Reynolds, Paul Harris, etc.  I'd still take last year's class.

I now understand why you guys were so bitter about his recruitment.

Yes, we/I am bitter. Eric Gordon is dead to me. This will be the last post in which I type his name. To me, he doesn't exist.

I don't know how anyone can hold it against Gordon or Sampson though...  Gordon never would've considered anyone other than Indiana if it weren't for Mike Davis. Blame Indiana for firing him if you're going to be bitter about it.

It could have and should have been handled much differently than it was. I'm not going to rehash the whole thing again.

Sorry Critical, but I am not ready to annoit Eric Gordon the next anyone after 1 game against UT-Chattanooga.

When he is putting up these types of numbers, I'll maybe call him the next Kevin Durant

35.9 mpg, 25.8 ppg, 11.1 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1.9 bpg, 1.9 spg

oh yeah, do it against Big 12 teams where Durant averaged BETTER numbers.

So soon we forget the past.
