Eric Wedge On The Hot Seat
I was taking my morning bath today, relieving the stress due to the major goings on the latest world events. As I was laying there relaxing and soaking in the bathtub, it hit me like a ton of bricks:" What is wrong with the Cleveland Indians?"  The Tribe has now lost six in a row, thirteen games under five hundred, and last place in the AL Central, after they got swept by my OTHER favorite team the Chicago Cubs. Local commentator Bruce Drennan predicted that the Indians will be a Wild Card team in the playoffs. What a disappointment! The Tribe bullpen which was in the top three in the AL last year; now they're rock bottom. Now Tribe manager Eric Wedge, in his seventh year as Tribe skipper is rumored to be on the hot seat. Which leads me to ask two questions. #1) Do you fire Wedge during the All-Star break? I have an answer: Absolutely not! If you do, who do you replace him? Certainly not Joel Skinner! He's been there and done that. It is crazy that  you get him to be interim skipper to do that; aint gonna happen. And no way will you tap bench coach and asisstant manager Jeff Datz. He's got no managerial experience; so cross HIM off your list. #2) Do you fire him at the end of the year? Again, here's my answer: If the Indians continue to play the way they've been playing now, then Wedge is fired. Right now it looks like we are going to be a seller, like last year, which means Mark DeRosa and Cliff Lee, last year's Cy Young award winner, will be on the trading block. The roster is all but shot.  Sizemore, Cabrera, Betancourt, and Laffey are hurt; Shoppach strikes out way too much getting an earful from Wedge in the process; and Carmona couldn't get his head out of his butt because he can't throw strikes worth a darn; Peralta is on the verge of being traded because he is of market value, and is a streaky hitter; Finally Sowers is the same as last year: terrible! He leaves balls that got too much of the plate and he keeps getting clobbered by enemy hitters. I almost forgot about Kerry Wood. I feel bad for him because he's not getting enough save oppertunities. Right now,my candidates to replace Wedge will be for now, Tony Pena, Bob Melvin, and Travis Fryman. I'll leave the rest to you!
