Evan Tanner took a trip to the desert in California, intending to find treasure. Not necessarily material treasure, as he specified in his blog, but rather he wanted "to go to these places, the quiet, timeless, ageless places, and sit, letting silence and solitude be my teachers"."I plan on going so deep into the desert, that any failure of my equipment, could cost me my life."
The former UFC middleweight champ was found dead on Monday in the desert, a few days after he reportedly sent a friend a text message saying that he was out of water and needed help.
Normally, I find it uncouth to speak poorly about the deceased, especially immediately after their death. But this just seemed like something that could have (and SHOULD have) been avoided. He was clearly tempting fate, and fate got the best of him.
Evan's fans will all miss him. He was an exciting fighter and, by all accounts, a pretty good guy. RIP Evan Tanner.
