Everton boss David Moyes becomes top-candidate for Chelsea job
The Goodison Park boss David Moyes has entered the race for Chelsea manager. The Scotsman, who has yet to ink a new contract with Everton, is being closely monitored by the Champions League winning side.
Everton manager David Moyes is being linked to a move to Chelsea. Earlier today, reports broke out suggesting Chelsea were considering listing David Moyes as a potential replacement for interim manager Rafael Benitez.
This news has set off alarm bells in England. A number of Premier League clubs have been linked to David Moyes in recent years, with Manchester United and Arsenal topping that list. Therefore, it appears as if Chelsea will have to battle for the Scotsman’s services.
Chelsea were thinking about bringing former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola to Stamford Bridge after the Spaniard’s sabbatical ended this summer. However, since Pep Guardiola has decided to join Bayern Munich, the London club is once again in search of a long-term manager.
According to reports, David Moyes has emerged as a top contender for the Chelsea job. David Moyes has yet to put pen on paper for a new contract at Everton, which means this is the perfect opportunity for Chelsea to swoop in for the 49-year-old.
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is also one of the candidates for the Chelsea job, in spite of his differences with the club’s Russian billionaire owner Roman Abramovich. The Portuguese enjoyed a successful but controversial spell at Chelsea that ended with a bust-up with Roman Abramovich over power.
The list of suitors for Chelsea is quite long and gives no idea about the future manager might possibly be. David Moyes is expected to do well at Chelsea if he is signed in, but the London club might have to fight with Manchester United and Arsenal for his services first.
David Moyes has been seen as a long-term successor to Sir Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger for some time now. Rife rumors suggest Manchester United have been close to signing a gentleman’s contract with David Moyes for the last couple of years. Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has yet to accept David Moyes as his possible replacement.
