Ezekiel Ansah’s 3D glasses look wins fans at IMAX Movies
The 23-year-old Ansah made a fashion statement on draft-day when camera’s spotted him wearing 3D glasses with the lenses popped out along with a cap and suit as his name was called after being selected fifth overall by the Detroit Lions. Ansah’s story behind the 3D glasses drew even more interest.
The former BYU defensive end revealed that 3D glasses were left over from a screening of the movie Thor he’d seen in 2011. Friends coaxed him into wearing the 3D glasses as a dare.
But the seemingly innocent move surprisingly turned into a perk for Ansah who has supposedly developed a new fan base at IMAX. The Lions rookie was offered free tickets to 3D movies for a year, in a letter last week as IMAX jumped on the opportunity for further publicity.
"We, at IMAX, couldn't help but notice your keen sense of style at the NFL draft this year,” read the letter. “You made quite a fashion statement with your pair of 3D glasses.”
“As a member of the Detroit Lions, you share our love for the color blue,” continued the company letter, “and we would like to add an IMAX silver lining for you – we would love to celebrate your first year in the NFL with the opportunity to see all IMAX 3D movies on us for the next year."
Its been a good year for Ansah. Not only is he likely to receive a deal similar to the Jacksonville Jaguars’ fifth overall in 2012 NFL draft Justin Blackmom’s four-year, $18.5 million contract, but Ansah will also receive additional movie tickets for his entire rookie year.
