Fan IQ 2007 NBA Mock Draft: #17 New Jersey Nets
Considering: Jason Smith, Sean Williams, Josh McRoberts
Thought Process: The Nets biggest need this offseason is a big man with a great post game. Their current starting PF/C is Jason Collins and he leaves a lot to be desired. With their first round pick, the Nets need to get someone with size and game to complement Nenad Kristc in the frontcourt.
Jason Smith is a power forward who clocks in at 7’ 0.” Despite his size, he is extremely quick and has great ball handling skills. The drawbacks to his game are his average rebounding skills and is weak defensive abilities.
Sean Williams is a 6’ 10” center with great shot blocking ability. He is a great athlete with a good offensive game. The drawbacks to Williams are poor rebounding skills and off court troubles.
Josh McRoberts is 6’ 10” and has excellent perimeter skills for a big man. He is a prototypical high post power forward and has athletic versatility. McRoberts has been labeled by some as “soft” due to his inability to carry Duke on his back this past season.
The 17th Pick: Josh McRoberts, Forward-Center, Duke Blue Devils
McRoberts has all the tools to become a starter at the NBA level. His size and athleticism - coupled with impressive passing ability and a solid face-up game – make him a perfect fit for the Nets.
