Blog Photo - FanIQ Live Week 14 NFL Game ThreadGreetings, football fans, and happy Sunday! It saddens me that we're already in Week 14 of the season. You realize that means we only have 3 more weeks of regular season football left, right? But that's okay - we have a couple months total, a lot of it being playoffs. Yay!

Joining me today is RaiderSteeler15, aka Falcon. You can usually find Falcon in the sports bars and the Best of the Web, but occasionally he hangs out in the Locker Room as well. Today's format will be a smidge different from the norm, as his in-depth analysis requires a little more room. I will give my picks without much fanfare, and you can toggle between pages for the early, late, and primetime games. Welcome, Falcon! Let's do this...

Early Games:
Colts (8-4) @ Bengals (8-4) on CBS
Falcon - The Indianapolis Colts and the Cincinnati Bengals both have 8-4 record and the Colts are in 3rd place in the AFC playoff picture and the Bengals are in 4th place in the AFC Playoff picture. The winner of this game will be in 3rd place of the AFC playoff picture. The Bengals are a more balanced team coming into this game as they were able to beat elite QBs like Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Matthew Stafford, and Philip Rivers. The Bengals' 6th ranked total defense will have to make Andrew Luck's day a living hell if they can beat the colts plus the Bengals' 11th ranked pass offense led by Andy Dalton will have the exploit the Colts' 17th ranked pass defense. My Pick: Bengals over Colts

Jess - Hmm...Colts

Falcons (3-9) @ Packers (5-6-1) on FOX
Falcon - This could be one of the least interesting games to watch this week as the Atlanta Falcons who had high Super Bowl expectations fell flat on their faces this season winning only 3 out of their 11 games this season and snapping their 5-game losing streak last week against the Buffalo Bills in Toronto. The Falcons' defense has been their issue all throughout this season (30th in stopping the run, 29th in scoring defense, 26th in total defense and 20th in stopping the pass) and the Falcons' offense led by $104 million dollar man Matt Ryan (5th in passing offense) has been very overwhelmed by the poor performance by the falcons' defense. The Falcons' offense wasn't immune to any issues at all as WR Julio Jones was out for the year with a foot injury and Falcons' running back Stephen Jackson has played only 8 games since joining the Falcons as the Falcons' run offense ranks 29th in the league. As for the Green Bay Packers, ever since Aaron Rodgers injured his collarbone on Monday Night against the Chicago Bears ( Week 9) the packers are on a 5-game winless streak. The lack of stability from the back up QB position has been an issue for the packers as well as their defense. (24th in team defense) The packers have proved that they are a vulnerable team when Aaron Rodgers is sidelined for more than 3 games. Plus the packers have been hit hard with injuries from Tight End Jermichael Finley and Wide Receiver Randall Cobb. If Aaron Rodgers starts this week against the Falcons, I like the packers' chances of ending their 5-game winless streak. My Pick: Packers over Falcons

Jess - Ya know what? I'm going with the Falcons...for the hell of it.

Browns (4-8) @ Patriots (9-3) on CBS
Falcon - The Cleveland Browns go to Foxboro to face a the New England Patriots who will attempt to maintain their 2nd place spot in the AFC playoff picture. The Cleveland Browns are one of the most improved teams this season in my opinion even though their search for a long-term QB has haunt them since the Browns revived their franchise in 1999. QB Brandon Weeden is truly not the long-term answer for the Browns offensively and ever since the Browns traded RB Trent Richardson to the colts for a 1st round pick, the Browns have struggled to run the ball (28th in running the ball) so the Browns will have to lose this game since they will have several draft picks lined up for the 2014 NFL Draft in New York. As for the Patriots, they proved that they are still a threat in the AFC even if Tom Brady plays with average wide receivers and they also proved they aren't afraid of Peyton Manning and the high-scoring Denver Broncos. The Pats are the reason why some people are having 2nd thoughts on picking the Broncos to make the super bowl this season. Don't be surprised if the Patriots make the super bowl this season. My Pick: Pats over Browns

Jess - hahahahaa...Uh yea, Pats

Raiders (4-8) @ Jets (5-7) on CBS
Falcon - The Oakland Raiders come into Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey as they will attempt to spoil the Jets' playoff hopes by getting their 5th win of the season. (Raiders were 4-12 last season) The Raiders' defense will have to come up with big plays against the Jets' 32nd pass offense led by Jets' rookie QB Geno Smith who is last in the league in Quarterback ratings. (60.4 on the season) Geno Smith has 19 interceptions on the year with 8 touchdowns and it has to do with him not having any true Wide Receivers on the Jets' offense. The New York Jets have been able to muster up 5 wins with very little on the offensive side of the ball thanks to the Jets' 12th ranked defense. Raiders' QB Matt McGloin has been the light for the Raiders' offense ever since Terrelle Pryor has missed the last 3 games due to his knee injury. Matt McGloin has 799 passing yards and he's already played 4 games, if he can exploit the Jets' 25th ranked pass defense and scoring defense and if Raiders' RB Rashad Jennings continue to run the ball effectively in place of injured Raiders' RB Darren McFadden, then the Raiders will come out with a win against the Jets. My Pick: Raiders over Jets

Jess - Raiders

Lions (7-5) @ Eagles (7-5) on FOX
Falcon - The Detroit Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles should put up alot of points when they clash in Philly, The Lions are in the Driver's seat of the NFC North and they will attempt to end the Eagles' 4-game winning streak as the eagles are in 7th place of the NFC playoff picture. Eagles' QB Nick Foles who has replaced Mike Vick has a quarterback rating of 125.2 on the season with 19 touchdowns and no interceptions on the year. Foles could exploit the Lions' that possesses the league's ranked 26th pass defense. Lions' QB Matthew Stafford who is responsible for the League's 2nd rank passing offense could have a field day against eagles' pass defense that is ranked last along with their total defense raking 31st. Expect a high scoring game between these 2 teams as the Lions will continue to remain in 1st place in the NFC North. My Pick: Lions over Eagles

Jess - Lions

Dolphins (6-6) @ Steelers (5-7) on CBS
Falcon - The Miami Dolphins will try to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Steel City for the 1st time since September 30th 1990 when Dan Marino was the QB for the Miami Dolphins. What's at stake for the Miami Dolphins? They have the 7th place spot in the AFC playoff picture and the Steelers are in 9th place in the AFC playoff picture. Wide Receiver Mike Wallace, who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 1st 4 years of his career signed a $60 Million deal for 5-years with the Dolphins could get some mixed reactions from the Heinz field crowd, most of the steeler fans might boo him. The Steelers will need this win if they want to stay in the playoff hunt otherwise they will be out of playoff contention alot sooner than later. The Steelers' 13th ranked total defense will need to limit the Dolphins' 26th ranked total offense from moving the ball down the field as well as letting the dolphins score. (24th in scoring offense) Expect a low-scoring close game from both teams. My Pick: Steelers over Dolphins.

Jess - I've gotta go with the Dolphins here

Bills (4-8) @ Buccaneers (3-9) on CBS
Falcon - This game should be the battle of the quarterbacks drafted in the 2013 NFL Draft with Bills' QB EJ Manuel (Drafted in the 1st round, 16th pick) and Bucs' QB Mike Glennon. (Drafted in the 3rd round, 73rd pick) The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are out of playoff contention as they have 14 players this season on the injury reserved list including Buccaneers' running back Doug Martin. The Buffalo Bills on the other hand are hanging on cliff to their slim hopes to make the playoffs even though they are more healthy than the bucs coming into this game. The Buccaneers have had decent expectations this year with acquiring former Jets' cornerback Darrelle Revis and former 49ers' safety Dashon Goldson to solidify the Bucs' run defense (12th in the league this year) but that expectation has went down the toilet due to the Bucs' 31st total offense. Expect the Bills' 17th total defense to feast on the Mike Glennon and the Bucs' 30th pass offense. My Pick: Bills over Buccaneers

Jess - Eenie, meenie, miney...Bucs

Chiefs (9-3) @ Redskins (3-9) on CBS
Falcon - The Chiefs and the 'Skins both square off as the Chiefs are on a 3-game losing streak and the 'Skins have lost 4 straight games in a row. Ever since the Chiefs came off of their bye week in week 10, the Chiefs have given up 34.3 points and an average of 406 total yards in the last 3 games. I believe the 'Skins could be what the doctor ordered for the Kansas City Chiefs as they will attempt to get things rolling against a 'Skins' defense this ranked 31st in scoring defense, 27th in pass defense and 23rd in total defense... Those numbers are the reason why the 'Skins have lost 4 games in a row which makes the task difficult for the 'Skins' #1 rushing offense and #7 total offense led by Robert Griffin the 3rd, Alfred Morris and Roy Helu Jr. A great offenses benefit a lot from a defense that are able to get stops and generate turnovers. Mr. Dan Snyder ('Skins owner) will need to have a defensive NFL draft next year since his squad are not qualified to be in the playoffs this year. So if the Chiefs' faltering defense can come up with some defensive stops and the Chiefs' offense that's led by Alex Smith and Jamaal Charles can have a great day against the 'Skins' defense, they should walk out of FexEx Field with a win and maintain their 5th place spot in the AFC playoff picture considering the Chiefs are 7-1 all-time against Washington. My Pick: Chiefs over the 'Skins

Jess - Chiefs

Vikings (3-8-1) @ Ravens (6-6) on FOX
Falcon - The Purple Bowl is what they should call this matchup every time the Vikings and the Ravens clash against each other. The team in purple is in 6th place in the AFC Playoff Picture and the other team in purple are at the bottom of the barrel as far as being in the hunt to fight for a playoff spot. The Minnesota Vikings are 1 loss away from being eliminated from playoff contention if they lose this week to the ravens in Charm City. (Baltimore) The lack of stability from the quarterback position (25th pass offense) has been the Vikings' issue into why the Vikings have lost so many games this season with Christian Ponder being injured numerous times this season to Matt Cassel replacing him and the Vikings signing QB Josh Freeman from the Bucs on October. As a result, the Vikings have been a 1-dimensional team offensively with Adrian Peterson leading the way as he is responsible for the leagues' 6th rushing offense. Their issue doesn't stop there, they are also have issues defensively as they are ranked last in scoring defense, 30th in pass and total defense and 23rd in stopping the run. The Vikings' defense is what the doctor will order for the Ravens' offense led by the $120 million dollar man Joe Flacco and Ray Rice at the RB position. The ravens' offense hasn't been impressive this season -- 30th in running the ball, 25th in scoring defense, 29th in total offense and 19th in pass offense however the ravens' defense (6th in stopping the run, 7th in scoring defense, 10th in total defense and 12th in pass defense) have made Flacco's job less overwhelming when he can manage the game offensively. But the Ravens should win to maintain their 6th place spot in the AFC playoff picture and stick a fork into the vikings' hopes in staying in the hunt to make the playoffs My Pick: Ravens over Vikings

Jess - Ravens

Antonio Brown is their #1 receiver, and is actually leading the league in receptions.  WR is the least of their problems.  The defense is aging badly and it's been more noticeable this year than ever with their current group of guys, that's what has let them down all year.  When your offense is putting up 28-30 points and you lose those games, you need to rebuild your defense.  The RB situation is suspect as well, I do agree with that, and their O-line is still Swiss cheese.  It's been that way since Ben has been the QB.  They have a lot of work to do this offseason.

The NFC South Showdown is minutes away, this game between the Panthers/Saints will indicate who is the REAL DEAL in the NFC South...

The Detroit Lions will still win the NFC North even though they lost today, They play the Ravens, Giants and the Vikings, so that's 3 more wins for the Lions... The Giants' playoff hopes are done as well as the rams, vikings, raiders, steelers and bills...

At this point, my main concern is that these games end in time for the Red Zone touchdown montage.

12/8/13   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

Because today hasn't been crazy enough: a 64 yard field goal! New record!

I'm sure everyone will be pleased to know that the Steelers are now done for the season.  Mathematically, I know it's still possible.  Realistically, we all know Pittsburgh is out of it.

Seems strange to now be watching a game without snow.  Oh, and look at that, the Ravens just beat the Vikings :)

12/8/13   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

This is insane.

Outside the Chiefs/Redskins game, these 1pm games have been awesome

Very frustrating and disheartening to watch that fiasco.

Eagles and Lions game looked like a CFL game  cheeky

Ravens/Vikings is beyond insane.

Yeah, I spoke too soon on that one.

So, the Packers won and the Lions look like they will lose. Did those bastards pull me back in? Ask me after the Bears game tomorrow.

I remember an outcry from some Rams fans last season saying this organization would never recover from NOT taking RGIII.  I don't hear a lot of that now

RGIII hasn't been good this year, but he's not even in the top 10 of the problems with the Washington football team.

12/8/13   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

Gronk was just taken out on a vicious low hit. Looked like a bad knee injury.

Speaking of injuries, how the hell is Le'Veon Bell playing tonight?

12/8/13   |   Scott   |   52653 respect

NFL can take full blame for that hit on Gronkowski.  When defenders have no choice but to go low you run the risk of seeing these types of injuries

I give you, the Washington football team

12/8/13   |   Scott   |   52653 respect

And I would be shocked if the special teams coach for the Redskins is the same guy next season

12/8/13   |   Scott   |   52653 respect

I do believe the Redskins players have officially quit on Mike Shanahan

12/8/13   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

Really bummed it won't be a 0-0 tie in Philly.

Also, Washington's special teams is the worst I've ever seen.

12/8/13   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

Ben Roethlisberger's TD pass to Emmanuel Sanders is his 213th career touchdown, breaking Terry Bradshaw's record of 212 playing in his 140th game today.  Bradshaw set the record in 168 career games.

You can barely see at Heinz Field, snow is covering the turf and it's only the first quarter.  This is going to be a fun game.

12/8/13   |   Scott   |   52653 respect

I see a 3-0 final coming in the Philly/Detroit game

12/8/13   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

So yeah, the scene in Philly is ridiculous.

12/8/13   |   Scott   |   52653 respect

Reggie Bush loses his footing on the wet field in Philly and hurts himself in warm ups.  Could be a bad loss for the Lions

Go Team

12/8/13   |   Scott   |   52653 respect

Looks like Mother Nature is going to have a bit of a say in the early games.
