Doc shares his picks in somewhat of an unconventional way, but hey...sometimes that way is more accurate than even the most scientific analysis we can come up with.
Welcome, Doc! Let's do this.....
Buccaneers (0-5) @ Falcons (1-4) on FOX
Doc: Falcons over Bucs....coz a Falcon swooping down over a buccaneer would make the Buc crap his pants....Falcons win!
Jess: I suppose that's one way to look at it. I like that the Falcons are home, and that the Bucs are one of the only teams struggling worse than Atlanta is right now. That team is just a mess, both on the field and off. Atlanta seems to just be hurting on the field...they have the edge.
Bengals (4-2) @ Lions (4-2) on CBS
Doc: Bengals over Lions...well...both have cool helmets, but in real life, tigers are prettier than lions.
Jess: You watch what you say about lions! They are majestic creatures and deserve the utmost respect! That being said, I think that despite the fact that their records are the same, Cincinnati is a more complete team right now. Lions are at home, but I don't think that will matter. Bengals.
Bills (2-4) @ Dolphins (3-2) on CBS
Dolphins over Bills-well, Dolphins are SMART!! Dumb Buffalo went and got shot up by the Indians and the Cowboys on the plains.
Jess: I had a dream last night that I was swimming with dolphins and manta rays. Was it a sign? Maybe. Let's treat it as one. Miami started out strong this year but have dropped two in a row. I think they come back out strong after their bye week.
Patriots (5-1) @ Jets (3-3) on CBS
Doc: Cheatriots over Jets...well...Coach Fred Flintstone got lucky, and the Jets got cocky after beating the Falcons on MNF a few weeks back...and after the NE comeback last week....they're not too bad (though I don't like em at all.)
Jess: Is Gronk back this week? Did I hear that somewhere? Must have been the same place I heard Peyton is returning to Indy this week...which was...let me think...oh yea...EVERYWHERE! Anyway, although I don't think he will be a huge part of the offense just yet this week, he might make just that much of a difference, which obviously the Pats haven't needed much. The Jets do sometimes give them fits though, so who knows. I take the Pats too, but I don't take the points. (What are the points, anyway?)
Cowboys (3-3) @ Eagles (3-3) on FOX
Doc: Eagles over Cowboys... Eagles are kind of local, and Cowboys...well...Romo will find a way to choke at the end somehow...AND...Eagles haven't won at home in a YEAR! 8 straight home losses! Time to get off the schneid
Jess: I'm kinda confused by that last sentence, but that's okay - it's a place I'm used to being. Let's see...this is often one of my favorite matchups, and it looks like it may be this year, too. Nick Foles is obviously (though not outwardly) trying to take that starting job and he'll play like it. That could mean trouble for the Cowboys defense. I'm taking the Eagles too. (Hey, we're totally in sync so far.)
Bears (4-2) @ Redskins (1-4) on FOX
Doc: Bears over Skins-Tough one....IF RG3 plays "not so injured", Skins have a chance....but I think ultimately that "Da Bears" will prevail
Jess: Aha! I knew it had to happen sooner or later, and of course it's the next game after I said something. The Bears are a good team this year, and they have the potential to be very, very dangerous. However, I think that Washington is due for another win, and don't be surprised if it's today.
Rams (3-3) @ Panthers (2-3) on FOX
Doc: Rams over Panthers-Another tough one...I HAVE to choose the Rams....they're my team, but they've also improved in the last two weeks, beating a lowly Jaguars team and manhandling a strange Texans team. The Rams defense has been solid in the last two weeks, and the offense is starting to come around, even though it's nowhere near the "Greatest Show on Turf".
Jess: This is going to be a really good game between two teams who I think are much better than their records reflects. I'm excited - I'll defintely be watching. I have to hope the Panthers win, of course, forgive me. It's a coin toss though, so let me take Marcus's approach and actually toss a coin (Rams=Heads, Panthers=Tails)...TAILS!
Chargers (3-3) @ Jaguars (0-6) on CBS
Doc: San Diego Super Chargers over the Jags...yes, the Jags will win at least ONE game this year...but not against the powder blue clad Chargers (the pink and blue will go well together this weekend).
Jess: Oh lord. The Chargers are coming off a huge win against the Colts last week and carry momentum into a stadium that the worst team I've seen in a long while calls home. The thing is, the Jags also put up quite a fight against Denver, so if there's such thing as a "moral victory" anymore, they've got that under their belt at home this week. Ya know what? I'm calling another upset. How much fun would it be to watch Rivers have one of his meltdowns because the Jags pick him off 3 times?
49ers (4-2) @ Titans (3-3) on FOX
Jess: I'm not sure what happened to Doc's pick on this one, or if...like me...he just didn't want to pick it. I have a little fun fact about this one though; Every team so far this year who has gone up against Seattle, win or lose, has gone on to lose their next game. I really hope the Titans break that streak, but I'll be honest. I don't think they're gonna.
Browns (3-3) @ Packers (3-2) on CBS
Doc: Packers over Browns-even without Cobb, and possibly Jones, Packers too good, Browns pretenders....PLUS....WHEN ARE THE BROWNS GONNA GET A LOGO FOR THEIR HELMETS? And what IS a Brown? I know it's named after Paul Brown, but....if his last name was "Pink" would they be the "pinks"?
Jess: That's disgusting. Annnnyway...The Browns have been surprisingly decent this year, but I don't think they'll make it past the Packers in Green Bay. Cobb might be out, but what the heck is going on in Cleveland right now? Is Weeden in? Did they bring in someone else? I don't even know, and I don't care enough to look. Packers.
Texans (2-4) @ Chiefs (6-0) on CBS
Doc: Chiefs and their coach, Walrus 2 (Holmgren was Walrus 1) spanking the Texans, who bypassed TJ Yates (sucks for him) to go with a rookie....I smell a BIG POW-WOW after the Chiefs convene their tribal council, and a Chiefs victory.
Jess: DUDE! That's The Lorax, not Walrus 2! And he especially looks like the Lorax now that he's wearing red. And oh em gee, could this matchup be any more lopsided at this point? I think the Jags might even fair better against KC. Texans D is still good, but there's only so much they can do (besides maybe break Alex Smith). The Chief's defense is going to KILL this Case Keenum kid. Poor Texans. Poor Texans fans. This will be an ugly game.
Ravens (3-3) @ Steelers (1-4) on CBS
Doc: Ravens over Steelers....big rivalry game, going back to when the Ravens were the Browns (lots of fights in college between Browns and Steelers fans...we were 80 miles from each city)...Steelers didn't look THAT impressive in beating the Jets...
Jess: Remember when this game was the big marquee matchup of the week? It was another fun one, but something happened to the Steelers on the way to training camp this year. As bad as I thought the Ravens would be this year, multiply that by 1000 and you have the reality of the Steelers right now.
8:30pm - Broncos (6-0) @ Colts (4-2) on NBC
Doc: Broncos over Colts...if Manning could clone himself, I'd say tie. Manning is better than Luck is right now....and I think that Denver has more weapons than the Colts do.
Jess: Jim Irsay is really turning me off the Colts right now. It's not what he's saying about Manning (whether he's intentionally saying anything specific or not). It's not even that he's probably trying to rattle Peyton by doing a big tribute thing and making the game bigger than it is because he knows how Peyton usually handles big games. It's that he's THAT involved right now at all. Is he becoming Al Davis reincarnated, or a Jerry Jones desciple? Why are we seeing him at all? I'm just annoyed right now. Broncos.
MNF Bonus Picks:
8:30pm - Vikings (1-4) @ Giants (0-6) on ESPN
Doc: GIANTS (yes, this Jersey guy who has NEVER liked the Giants...even say that my two favorite teams are the Rams and anyone playing the Giants-except the Cowboys...then I hope they BOTH lose) are the pick here. They aren't a "great" team, but they're due for their first W....they just need to contain AP....
Jess: I've picked the Giants for the upset over and over again, and they keep letting me down. They're ticking me off. Ugh, I'm just over them. I'm going to have to do my pick for this game tomorrow night anyway, so let me think on this one.
Thank you, Doc! And thanks to the rest of you for joining us today! Who are your picks? Share them below, grab a drink, some snacks, a seat, and Q it up here for NFL Sunday on FanIQ!
