Well, we certainly don't want to meddle too much with an NBA Championship team, but we do want to try and strengthen it so the team will become a favorite contender to finally win a back-to-back! With that said, there actually ARE a few weak spots in the Spurs' roster that could use some extra juice. Fresher legs are needed, and San Antonio is not getting younger! James White hopefully can get going, and his athletic abilities will be great to help repeat in 2008. Let's look at key places we could see some good changes:

  • A. The inside. Yes, Duncan is the master, and we do have Elson and Oberto-- BUT, Bonner is not a great forward, Elson has his foul troubles, and Oberto can't play 48 minutes either. Nick Fazekas has a decent size, and for being a possible late-round pick, this is a great selection the Spurs can take if they want a big man to back up Duncan and the starting center. The only issue is his style of play. He is like Bonner, but according to scouts he is working his way inside. He's a good rebounder, and that is key as well.
  • B. The perimeter. We got Manu. Check! Bowen. Check! Finley. Check(?)! um... anyone else? Not really. Barry doesn't play often, although he did shoot well from downtown. Finley as well, but these guys are running out of playing time in their career, so this is one spot the Spurs can jumpstart as well. I'm looking at Jared Dudley. He has some good numbers, and with some strong melding from Duncan and the type of play by the Spurs, i think he'd fit in nicely. He can shoot the three rather well, over 40% for his last season. Think he won't get any outside looks?

Other than that, the point guard position looks ok. Parker is still improving, and getting into his prime. Vaughn had great defense, and despite low numbers, did very efficient running the team. Beno... eh, he is tradeable and we can pick up better players.

This is tough, but i am going with...

The pick: Jared Dudley, SF, Boston college.

We can work on the inside soon, being late in the draft again won't help too much, and i don't think we need another Bonner-type PF or C. Dudley will provide great support for Duncan, and another three point threat.

Up next: Phoenix Suns

I hear he has dropped weight since leaving BC which probably shows that he is going to try to fit as a small forward (maybe even Shooting Guard) but he has the potential to be a solid NBA player and has a better shot many people think. He will also give you how ever much toughness you want out of him. GO JD!!

imagine him with Duncan. Duncan will give him open looks, and he will knock them down. He will also add to our "3 point threat". Thats why i picked him. He'll fit in nicely!

Nice pick...can't go wrong with a BC alum.

indeed.  This kid has potential, and his play will fit in with SA. I hope we end up with him!
