Capping Off the Divisional Round [NFL Playoffs: Sunday Live Thread]

Two down, two to go. The Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers await the results of today's games to prepare for the Conference Championship games next weekend. Becky (kteacher) and Jason (Jason_) are here to provide their thoughts on the teams and the games today, so let's get started!

This one is easy for me to pick even though I have always dug Pete "The Man" Carroll (loves his enthusiasm), Jess-bot, and Thomas. Beans loves the Falcons. He's one of my bestest friends. He was with me every step of the way during the Kings Stanley Cup run (and trust me, I am a mess when watching. He kept me calm.) This is a no brainer. I am picking the Falcons...even though the Seahawks are looking to become only the 2nd team from the west coast to win back-to-back playoff games on the east coast; the first being the Rams in 1989 (aww Jim Everett...) - seriously, I just read that little factoid. Anywhoo...Beans is great and the Falcons win by 7 or 3 or 10 or 1...making his day.

Of course the two teams that have been there the least have to play each other. I really hope for Seattle's sake they win. People in that city are suicidal for some kind of championship. Poor city...haven't had anything decent since Courtney Love shot Kurt Cobain. Oh come on, you know she did it. Anyway...I don't think that Matty Ice gets enough check downs to pull this one out. Seattle 24, Atlanta 21.

Jess: ...Jason, don't worry about us. We still have the WNBA Storm, the MLS Sounders, the MLB Marin...well...we have the Storm and the Sounders. And a possible deal brewing to bring an NBA team back to Seattle, which would also effectively get the ball rolling for the NHL to land there. Oh who am I kidding. You're right. But I digress...This game scares me. Though Marshawn Lynch has been listed as Probably throughout the season and missed quite a few practices due to back spasms, rumor has it he has a sprained foot now. However, he is probable again, so he may be fine. He's got a great FB in front of him in Michael Robinson, and Turbin has given us a few good runs. The main thing I'm worried about is how our secondary will match up against Atlantas receivers. Their D is good but they have allowed some big plays, especially in road games. They can't do that with Atlanta. Again, this game scares me.

Texans @ Patriots:
4:30pm ET

If there was a football God he'd let the Texans win, simply based on Tom Brady's ridiculous hairstyle. Not to mention, the Texans have some of the most fun guys tweeting...and that wins in my book. I really really really want the Texans to win this game, but after watching the last couple games I just don't see it. Foster can't do it alone. Eff it! I'm picking them. By a lot. Surprising everyone NOT a Texans fan.

Jason:
Oh effing facepalm. There is almost nothing better in football than seeing the Brady pout face. Li'l Manning's open mouth re-re face ranks up there. Philip Rivers' temper tantrums are always amusing. Roethlisberger mean mugging with his rapey eyes is chuckle-worthy. But there is just something that makes the whole world seem balanced when the camera cuts to Brady on the sideline with his emo-haired head cradled in his undersized fem-hands. Sigh. Unfortunately I don't think the world gets righted this weekend. Texans 17, Patriots 37.

Ugh. I just have a feeling the Patriots are going to win this one easily and I don't like it. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see it. Bill Belichick and Tom Brady are ridiculous. I hope the Texans play like they did to start off the season and that the Pats play like they did in the first half of the San Francisco game. Can we get that? Please? Somehow I doubt it.

That's it for this week, folks! Who do you think wins today? Q it up here all day during the games, while we find out who faces the Ravens and 49ers in the Conference Championship games!

Yes Cheat Carroll and The Real Bum Phillips are out of the Playoffs. Now if only the Ravens and 49ers can  win next week, I will be able to enjoy the Super Bowl!

I kind of feel like I've been beaten within an inch of my life.

I really DO like the Pats, so there is that, I was just kinda hoping for the Texans......and the Broncos.....and the Seahawks....and the Packers.

*sigh*

Whoever said big girls don't cry was wrong. <sniff>

But I still love my Texans...so there's that.

Enjoy the game all, I'm staying the hell outta here!

1/13/13   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

And after all that's transpired this weekend, we still have one more game to play.

That was...yeah.

Falcons ain't going to the superbowl...  I got the 49ers beating the Falcons in the NFC Championship game...

1/13/13   |   Scott   |   51851 respect

And the Falcons/Hawks game ends with a Julio Jones interception.  Falcons/49ers next week in the Dome

1/13/13   |   Debi_L   |   11713 respect

I feel like I jinxed it!!! crying

1/13/13   |   JenX63   |   32358 respect

A very costly time out.....(smh)

1/13/13   |   Scott   |   51851 respect

This weekend is playoff football at it's finest

1/13/13   |   Debi_L   |   11713 respect

I do not believe what I have just seen.  I just don't.

1/13/13   |   RaiderSteeler15   |   20939 respect

IF the Falcons lose, they'll prove to the NFL ONCE AGAIN why they will never get respect in the league and history will continue to repeat itself for Matt Ryan as far as him winning a playoff game...

1/13/13   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

I feel like Mike Tirico during the Jean van de Velde collapse, saying "This is not happening!" is my most incredulous voice.

1/13/13   |   Debi_L   |   11713 respect

I'm stunned.  I am still not saying anything, but I'm not breathing either.

1/13/13   |   Scott   |   51851 respect

Doesn't appear like any defenses are going to show up in the divisional round.

1/13/13   |   JenX63   |   32358 respect

Jess! (you remembering to inhale/exhale)
I hope Ash is remembering to.

1/13/13   |   Scott   |   51851 respect

Every time the Hawks score, you can hear the air sucked right out of the Georgia Dome.  Fans won't be exhaling until the clock hits 0

1/13/13   |   Scott   |   51851 respect

Back up by 3 scores for the Falcons and they bleed almost 8 minutes off the clock.  Matt Ryan and company have had a terrific game plan attacking the Hawks defense

1/13/13   |   JenX63   |   32358 respect

I'm speechless!

1/13/13   |   Scott   |   51851 respect

Hawks make it look easy starting the 2nd half.  Not getting any points on those two red zone trips in the first half loom even larger right now

1/13/13   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

Someone on Twitter compared Seattle's first half to this. It fits.

1/13/13   |   Scott   |   51851 respect

That. Can't. Happen.

Brutal ending to the first half for the Hawks.

The decision to go for it wasn't the problem with me, it was the play calling. No Lynch for some reason, and I'm not sure why throwing wasn't an option since Atlanta isn't getting any pressure at all.

I'm thinking Lynch will have a light load - back spasms all season are bad enough but add a foot sprain to it and they'll be more selective in when they play him. *sigh*

1/13/13   |   Scott   |   51851 respect

Ryan to White finally burns Sherman for a touchdown.  Falcons are close to delivering a 2nd quarter KO in this game

The FedEx Field turf should just be called the Season Destroyer now.

1/13/13   |   Scott   |   51851 respect

Brutal play calling on 3rd and 4th down for the Hawks.  They need two yards and Marshawn Lynch doesn't get a single carry.  Falcons take over on downs up 13-0

1/13/13   |   Scott   |   51851 respect

Hawks defense holding the Falcons to field goals.  One big drive for the Hawks and they are right back in this game

1/13/13   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

Seattle is playing like a team whose bio clock thinks it's still morning.

1/13/13   |   Scott   |   51851 respect

Anybody get the license plate of that truck that just ran over Earl Thomas?

1/13/13   |   Debi_L   |   11713 respect

Posting from my phone. After yesterday I'm almost afraid to say anything.

1/13/13   |   Scott   |   51851 respect

Russell Wilson looks a little shaky right now.  Hawks defense needs to make another big play and get the offense back out there

1/13/13   |   Scott   |   51851 respect

Tony Gonzalez makes up for the mental error on the Ryan interception with a great touchdown catch in the back of the end zone.

1/13/13   |   Scott   |   51851 respect

Falcons have to continue to at least try and run the ball consistently and keep the Hawks defense honest

1/13/13   |   Scott   |   51851 respect

Matt Ryan looks a little nervous so far in this game.  He's been late on a couple of throws and now a terrible pass is picked off by the Hawks

1/13/13   |   JenX63   |   32358 respect

Wow you guy & gals tamed it downed. I am torn here. As much as I love the Houston fans (especially ms. Jan, Leigh, and of course Crash) I really don't see them pulling a miracle here...my heart says Texans, my brain says Pats. For the Bird shoot out..I will cheer both teams equally as I am torn here more so. I do hope Ash enjoys here first (of many I am sure) playoff games, I also hope Jess (has an emt on call)
Go Teams!

1/13/13   |   Scott   |   51851 respect

Should've been a touchdown for the Falcons.  Matt Ryan waited a split second to long to make that pass to Roddy White

1/13/13   |   richard_cranium   |   17641 respect

Go Refs! No matter who wins these games, football loses!

1/13/13   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

After last night's debacle, I'm not picking anything. Go Texans in the late game. This game I'm not saying anything.

1/13/13   |   JuJu_52   |   7789 respect

Seahawks and Texans win!
