Personal:
First of all…I’ve gotta ask - what kind of beans?
Pintos, preferably with cornbread, are the beans of choice. I will eat northern beans, but they are a second choice, for sure.
You’re very open about the fact that you play in a band. Who was your music influenced by?
Music is a huge part of my life; I really don’t mean talk so much about it. It’s just I love playing it, and it has been there for me through a lot of ups and downs. I guess what is called classic rock now, blues, and folk all were the major influences, I love Motown and Atlantic Recording artists such as Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and so on. And Elvis, he is the king.
(Editor's Note: It is not a problem for us that you talk about music so much...we love it!)
What are your favorite artists to listen to? What about your favorite artists to cover?
It really depends on the mood I am in, James Taylor, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Mayer, Jack Johnson, and Edwin McCain as far as listening. Covering I would say James Taylor and Eric Clapton on acoustic guitar when playing alone, about anything when playing in a band. I love blues when playing lead guitar.
Do you have any favorite song that you play?
Fire and Rain by JT and Running on Faith by EC.
What’s the furthest you’ve ever traveled with your band? Anywhere exciting?
I usually play in NC, SC, GA, Ten, and VA. I am playing for a wedding in Beaufort, SC May 30th. I love that area along with Charleston, and Hilton Head Island, anytime I can mix business and play near the coast, I am all for it. About five years ago, I flew to St. Louis to play for a couple of private parties in Jefferson City. That’s the farthest away I have played with a band. I played in honkytonks from the age 20 through 26 fulltime 6 nights a week, every night was an adventure. Played at the Radisson Hotel in Charlotte back in ‘81 and during the third set the members of ZZ Top walked in. They had just finished a concert, and sat at a table in front of us, we began playing a blues song of theirs called ‘Blue Jean Blues’. No one else in the bar had a clue of who they were. Afterwards we walked up and introduced ourselves, they invited us to sit down. They told us how much they appreciated us doing one of their songs and how much they liked it. It blew me away.
Describe your idea of the perfect day:
Anywhere with shorts, t shirt, flops, ball cap, saltwater and sand. I can work it from there.
Tell us about the one day you would go back and relive from your youth, without changing a thing:
At 51, I am assuming I can say 26 is youth, it was the day of the birth of one of my daughters, either day they were born would be a great day to relive.
Sports:
Everyone had a pretty good idea he would be a good NFL QB, but how surprising is it to Atlanta fans to see Matt Ryan's success so quickly this season?
Oh yeah, I saw it coming a mile away (wink, wink, nod, nod).
This season Alabama jumped up and surprised everyone. Do you think they can duplicate their success next season with a new QB under center?
Nick Saban hasn’t even used his recruits, and is already getting things rolling for the Tide. Alabama’s future is so bright, Saban’s gotta wear shades.
Phil Mickelson is listed as one of your favorites on your profile – do you golf? If so, how good are you?
I was a freak about playing, 3 or 4 times a week. My score was usually hanging around in the low to upper eighties. I’m not playing much these days; I would love to get back to playing.
What's the best sporting event you've been to live?
I was at Fulton County Stadium when the Braves clinched the West Division in ’91. No one left the stadium for hours; they showed the SF vs. LAD on the scoreboard. Giants beat the Dodgers and the whole city of Atlanta went nuts. It was the greatest sports day for me ever.
What's the one sporting event you haven't been to you most want to attend?
Super Bowl, you know, the upcoming one that the Falcons are going win… next year.
Just for fun let's say you could be the GM of any team and make one transaction (trade, add/drop, etc) ... who would you be and what move would you make?
Detroit Lions and trade for Tom Brady.
Cliché:
If you had to choose five CD’s to listen to for the rest of your life, which five would you choose?
(1) Eric Clapton- Blues, (2) James Taylor- Live, (3) Led Zeppelin 4, (4) Stevie Ray Vaughan- In Step, (5) Jack Johnson- On and On
You find a Genie’s lamp and are granted three wishes; what are they?
Let’s see, world peace… naw… more wishes…nope… Ok, (1) a cure for cancer, (2) end world hunger, and (3) the Falcons win back to back Super Bowls.
3 people you'd invite to dinner with you?
Elvis, Benjamin Franklin, Jimi Hendrix
What would be served?
Lasagna
Who would you choose play you in a movie about your life? Why him?
Clint Eastwood. Like anyone needs to ask that one.
FanIQ:
How did you find FanIQ?
A guy at work told me about it, I came in and don’t want to get out. I like it a lot.
What’s the most bizarre Locker Room poll you’ve ever seen?
Well, there is that one that Jess edited recently that asked if folks in here liked other folks, weird.
(Editor's Note: I did what?!?)
What’s your favorite poll that you, yourself, created?
I had created a poll that was maybe a bit male chauvinistic (I know, who me?) and in a weak attempt to cover my back end, I created another pole asking which chick flick was the chick flickiest, Nellie fires back asking “is that all you got” with Towsongirl right behind her saying “yeah, that’s what I was about to say”. I will always chuckle over that one.
Have you made any good friends on the Q?
I would like to think so; there are some wonderful folks in here. I love to laugh, I try to make light of myself, and I guess, life itself. It is so short and goes by so fast, I hope I can make folks smile, laugh, and just enjoy our passages through time. (James Taylor lyrics)
What is your favorite feature on the site?
Polls, trivia, predictions, heck, all of it.
Predictions:
What’s been your boldest prediction since joining the site?
In one of the polls about last year, the person asked who would win the NYG- NE Super Bowl, I said that Eli Manning would throw a last second TD pass to win the game and then be raptured up to Heaven.
Did it turn out?
Kinda.
Ok so now what? Let’s end this interview with a doozy – who’s going to win the Super Bowl this year?
Tennessee Titans over the New York Giants
