FanIQ GameDay Live: Week 1

9/8/13 in NFL   |   Jess   |   34631 respect

Guess what, football fans?! We're finally here - with six whole months of football Sundays ahead of us! Welcome to Week 1 of our open game thread, FanIQ GameDay Live! This year we will continue our weekly blog where either Eric or I (depending on whether or not the Seahawks are at home) will play host to another FanIQ user and share our picks to start off the day,

Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game Thread
Note from Eric: When working with Jess, you get genuine enthusiasm for the game and pretty graphics. When working with me, you get pure snark and the feeling I don't even like football anymore, and no graphics because I'm lazy.

Eh, pretty graphics are probably overrated. Anyway, we decided it would be fun to start the season off with both of your FanIQ GameDay Live hosts - so let's do this!

Early Games:

Seahawks @ Panthers
Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadEric: Since I'm apparently on the Panthers bandwagon, and I don't like the 10:00 am start for Seattle, I'll pick the upset. *ducks*

Jess: Hmmmm. I may shun you. Also, as per usual, I will not be picking for a game in which my team is playing. I'll just hope and pray they get off to a fantastic start.

Raiders @ Colts
Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadEric: Holy bejeezus are the Raiders bad. The Colts probably aren't as good (and certainly not as lucky) as last year, but it's certainly not going to matter today.

Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadJess: Yes, I think the Colts were riding a #ChuckStrong momentum wave, and as good as Andrew Luck may be I'm not sure that team is there quite yet. Because it's Week One and nobody is expecting it, I'm calling the upset in this game.

Patriots @ Bills
Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadEric: What was likely to be abjectly humiliating with Jeff Tuel will only be slightly embarrassing for the Bills with a hobbled EJ Manuel. Pats win easy.

Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadJess: Didn't the Bills start off the season pretty well last year? Eh hell, I'm picking the upset here too because....well...why not?

Bengals @ Bears
Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadEric: No one knows yet how the Marc Trestman offense will work. I'll gamble that the Bengals defense stops it the first time out.

Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadJess: It's weird, because I usually have some sort of clue what's going on with the Bears in any given season due to a couple of family and friend allegiances, but I just have no idea this year. And weren't the Bengals stronger than usual last season? No matter either way. Bengals.

Dolphins @ Browns
Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadEric: Both teams are getting sleeper talk for some reason. Dolphins, I guess.

Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadJess: Are they? I think I must be conditioned to expect the Browns to be awful every game, every year. The Dolphins sure went on a shopping spree in the off-season, but I don't think that's going to do anything for them just yet. I'm picking them today anyway though.

Vikings @ Lions
Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadEric: Picking Week 1 sucks. These are two of the teams with the most varied potential outcomes this year. Lions.

Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadJess: On one hand I agree with you about picking Week 1. It's tough, because preseason doesn't teach us much of anything and nobody has a clue what's going to happen. On the other hand, isn't it fun that nobody has a clue what's going to happen? We can just throw our picks out free nilly and as much as we try to pretend to be all analytic about it, it's all speculative. I'm not going to pretend, and I'm just picking the Vikings. Know why? Because I can!

Falcons @ Saints
Eric: First to 40 wins. That is all.

Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadJess: This is always a tough one to pick, regardless of which team is doing what in any given season. It's always a blast to watch, too. I think these guys split the season, and home team wins today. Saints.

Buccaneers @ Jets
Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadEric: Revis Island is back and ready to go. The Jets are...yeah.

Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadJess: Wouldn't it be fun if the Jets came out today and took charge? Just stomped all over Revis and the Bucs? I know, I couldn't stay it with a straight face either - but it would make for an excellent Monday morning highlight show. Bucs.

Titans @ Steelers
Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadEric: If you can name five Titans, please have your family stage you an intervention, because you need help.

Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadJess: Ryan Fitzpatrick, Kenny Britt, Bernard Pollard, Marc Mariani (I think he's on IR - one more victim of the "Jess Jersey Curse") , Chris Spencer, Kendall Wright, Chris Johnson, Jake Locker,Shonn Greene,  Rob Bironas...That's all I can remember. Yep, have me committed, because I'm not even a Titans fan. I'm assuming you're taking the Steelers in this one? I'm tempted to agree. However, I'm taking the Titans.

Chiefs @ Jaguars
Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadEric: Andy Reid and Alex Smith start paying dividends immediately! Thanks Jacksonville for being so bad at football!

Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadJess: I'm pretty sure the Chiefs win this one but loyalty to my daughter has me picking the Jags. Besides, their helmets are cool (though I did like the others more) and those are the graphics I'm using today, what the hell, right?

Late Games:

Cardinals @ Rams
Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadEric: Nobody will be watching this game. Rams by something like 17-14

Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game Thread Jess: Au contraire, mon frère. I will be watching this game, because keeping an eye on the competition is always a good thing and I think both of these teams are being overlooked by pretty much, well, everybody this year. Also, I don't watch the Jim Harbaugh unless the 9ers are playing the Seahawks. Yep. That one person who didn't watch the Super Bowl this year? You're lookin' at her. I think these guys split too and the Rams are always tough at home.

Packers @ 49ers
Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadEric: The Laws of Homerism mean I must take the Packers. I do not feel good about that pick intellectually whatsoever.

Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadJess: Please, Packers, for the love of all that is decent and good and right in this world, please get it done.

Giants @ Cowboys
Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadEric: Ugh. Must this game always be nationally televised? Cowboys and me falling asleep by the end of the 3rd quarter.

Blog Photo - FanIQ Week 1 NFL Live Game ThreadJess: You and I are such totally opposite creatures. I always love this game; it's a fun rivalry (the NFC East is full of those). As much as I would enjoy watching the Giants go in to Jerry's World (or whatever they call that monstrosity) and beat the Cowboys in their home opener, I think Dallas prevents that - what, 6th? straight win for NYG there tonight.

Thank you for joining us today! Grab a drink, some snacks, a seat, and Q it up here all day and night for NFL Football on FanIQ!

Haha - sorry Jen! Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't - it depends on who sends the picks to the other (not to throw Eric under the bus) since we always do a separate live thread for the MNF game(s). That's why I always called it MNF Bonus Picks. I'll get a thread out for the MNF games tonight and include them :)

i was just razzin you! I know MNF is special. :)

Ahhh gotcha - so basically as for celebrations, it's the same as it's been for quite a while now.

Oh hey, another thing - were we all punked in the offseason when they told us there would be no dancing after touchdowns or sack celebrations? Was that a big joke by someone? Or was their mutiny by both the players and the refs against the league? I've seen just as many celebrations and dancing as ever before, and no penalties.

I'm not judging. If it's not the Seahawks I tend to be a bit ADD myself...Ash and most of my IRL friends can attest, it gets quite annoying to the people around me.

lol the first bullet point would have sufficed for me. I don't watch or chat or do anything else well when my team is playing. Had to wait to do some of the stuff on my work list until the game ended. Not to mention, I'm running on fumes right now, thanks to issues with this blog last night, my power going out right before I went to save it the third time, the power coming back on with every light and electronic I left on blasting me at 6:00am, dealing with the snoring symphony in my house...I'm crabby. Football is helping (though, the Seahawks didn't there, for awhile.)

As for the steelers, they were pretty thin in the tight end position and the offense need to get things rolling if the steelers have a shot of winning the AFC North...  Good thing is no one in the AFC North won today so everyone is safe until week 2 where the Browns/Ravens clash and the Steelers/Bengals clash in Nasty 'Natti on Monday Night Football...  Those games will decide who's the best in the division temporarily...

I'm happy to see that Terrelle Pryor proved that he's NFL ready!  The raiders put up a better effort because of Pryor and I expect the Raiders to be a consistent football team this season...

Insane football today - stupid penalty by the Bucs...and I can't believe the Bills were *thisclose* to winning their game. Those young QB's looked okay today.

And if the Seahawks o-line doesn't get their ish together I might have to punch Giacomini, Sweezy, and McQuistan in the face. Maybe not Sweezy, but the other two.

9/8/13   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

Danny Amendola is questionable to return with a groin injury.  He actually lasted longer then I thought he would

Stupid Saints up 3 at the half.
C'mon Seattle!
Oh, and Adrian Peterson might, just might, be a helluva RB.

Uhh, Directv RedZone is not the same as regular? I don't like it. I need my Scott Hanson. Ugh.
Go Falcons!

I love the pepsi commercial minus the ugly faced Harbaugh.

After going to the Jaguars game last year in Jacksonville she's decided that the Jags are tied with Baltimore for her second favorite team. She loves them.

OMGoodness, is anyone else excited? :)

So, I don't usually watch pregames, I usually turn to RedZone channel before gametime, but today the Fox pregame was on there, so I actually flipped through the other channels, and on one espn channel, I only saw women in the booth, on the field, reporting. OMG, NO! It upset me. For real. The voices were grating on my nerves after 32 sec. I cant... I'm going to watch The League.

Go Falcons!!
