Eh, pretty graphics are probably overrated. Anyway, we decided it would be fun to start the season off with both of your FanIQ GameDay Live hosts - so let's do this!
Seahawks @ Panthers
Eric: Since I'm apparently on the Panthers bandwagon, and I don't like the 10:00 am start for Seattle, I'll pick the upset. *ducks*
Jess: Hmmmm. I may shun you. Also, as per usual, I will not be picking for a game in which my team is playing. I'll just hope and pray they get off to a fantastic start.
Raiders @ Colts
Eric: Holy bejeezus are the Raiders bad. The Colts probably aren't as good (and certainly not as lucky) as last year, but it's certainly not going to matter today.
Jess: Yes, I think the Colts were riding a #ChuckStrong momentum wave, and as good as Andrew Luck may be I'm not sure that team is there quite yet. Because it's Week One and nobody is expecting it, I'm calling the upset in this game.
Patriots @ Bills
Eric: What was likely to be abjectly humiliating with Jeff Tuel will only be slightly embarrassing for the Bills with a hobbled EJ Manuel. Pats win easy.
Jess: Didn't the Bills start off the season pretty well last year? Eh hell, I'm picking the upset here too because....well...why not?
Bengals @ Bears
Eric: No one knows yet how the Marc Trestman offense will work. I'll gamble that the Bengals defense stops it the first time out.
Jess: It's weird, because I usually have some sort of clue what's going on with the Bears in any given season due to a couple of family and friend allegiances, but I just have no idea this year. And weren't the Bengals stronger than usual last season? No matter either way. Bengals.
Dolphins @ Browns
Eric: Both teams are getting sleeper talk for some reason. Dolphins, I guess.
Jess: Are they? I think I must be conditioned to expect the Browns to be awful every game, every year. The Dolphins sure went on a shopping spree in the off-season, but I don't think that's going to do anything for them just yet. I'm picking them today anyway though.
Vikings @ Lions
Eric: Picking Week 1 sucks. These are two of the teams with the most varied potential outcomes this year. Lions.
Jess: On one hand I agree with you about picking Week 1. It's tough, because preseason doesn't teach us much of anything and nobody has a clue what's going to happen. On the other hand, isn't it fun that nobody has a clue what's going to happen? We can just throw our picks out free nilly and as much as we try to pretend to be all analytic about it, it's all speculative. I'm not going to pretend, and I'm just picking the Vikings. Know why? Because I can!
Falcons @ Saints
Eric: First to 40 wins. That is all.
Jess: This is always a tough one to pick, regardless of which team is doing what in any given season. It's always a blast to watch, too. I think these guys split the season, and home team wins today. Saints.
Buccaneers @ Jets
Eric: Revis Island is back and ready to go. The Jets are...yeah.
Jess: Wouldn't it be fun if the Jets came out today and took charge? Just stomped all over Revis and the Bucs? I know, I couldn't stay it with a straight face either - but it would make for an excellent Monday morning highlight show. Bucs.
Titans @ Steelers
Eric: If you can name five Titans, please have your family stage you an intervention, because you need help.
Jess: Ryan Fitzpatrick, Kenny Britt, Bernard Pollard, Marc Mariani (I think he's on IR - one more victim of the "Jess Jersey Curse") , Chris Spencer, Kendall Wright, Chris Johnson, Jake Locker,Shonn Greene, Rob Bironas...That's all I can remember. Yep, have me committed, because I'm not even a Titans fan. I'm assuming you're taking the Steelers in this one? I'm tempted to agree. However, I'm taking the Titans.
Chiefs @ Jaguars
Eric: Andy Reid and Alex Smith start paying dividends immediately! Thanks Jacksonville for being so bad at football!
Jess: I'm pretty sure the Chiefs win this one but loyalty to my daughter has me picking the Jags. Besides, their helmets are cool (though I did like the others more) and those are the graphics I'm using today, what the hell, right?
Cardinals @ Rams
Eric: Nobody will be watching this game. Rams by something like 17-14
Jess: Au contraire, mon frère. I will be watching this game, because keeping an eye on the competition is always a good thing and I think both of these teams are being overlooked by pretty much, well, everybody this year. Also, I don't watch the Jim Harbaugh unless the 9ers are playing the Seahawks. Yep. That one person who didn't watch the Super Bowl this year? You're lookin' at her. I think these guys split too and the Rams are always tough at home.
Packers @ 49ers
Eric: The Laws of Homerism mean I must take the Packers. I do not feel good about that pick intellectually whatsoever.
Jess: Please, Packers, for the love of all that is decent and good and right in this world, please get it done.
Giants @ Cowboys
Eric: Ugh. Must this game always be nationally televised? Cowboys and me falling asleep by the end of the 3rd quarter.
Jess: You and I are such totally opposite creatures. I always love this game; it's a fun rivalry (the NFC East is full of those). As much as I would enjoy watching the Giants go in to Jerry's World (or whatever they call that monstrosity) and beat the Cowboys in their home opener, I think Dallas prevents that - what, 6th? straight win for NYG there tonight.
