As promised, here are your MLB Power Rankings. I have ranked all 30 MLB teams according to how good I think they are right now. I expect this to change as the season progresses., as obviously several factors will play into that. As of right now here they are. Enjoy.

1- Boston Red Sox

A healthy Big Papi means big trouble for the American League East. Very deep rotation and a strong bullpen. No real weaknesses. Pedroia is not having as good of a season, but he doesn't really need to. If John Smoltz returns to even 70% of his former self, the only team capable of getting in their way and posing a serious threat will be New York.

2- New York Yankees

This team is armed, dangerous and ready for the stretch run. They will be playing in October, its only a question of if they are the wild card or the AL East champs. Too much starting pitching and too good of a lineup to falter. Its just not gonna happen.

3- Los Angeles Dodgers

With a healthy Manny Ramirez, I will admit its going to be hard for the Gigantes to catch them this year. The Giants have a superior pitching staff, but the Dodgers can straight up mash. Jonathan Broxton has really developed into the closer L.A. was hoping he would become. I wouldn't slam the door on the NL West yet, but if they build it into a 10 or 11 game lead in the next few weeks, it should be a done deal.

4- Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

Starting to come together. A scrappy, scary team that is capable of beating anyone. Injuries to Santana and Escobar and the loss of K-Rod have hurt their pitching, but Matt Palmer and Brian Fuentes have done an admirable job filling in those blanks. Vlad is the key to this team. As he rolls, so do the Angels.

5- Detroit Tigers

Jim Leyland is one of the best managers in baseball. Edwin Jackson, the resurgence of Justin Verlander, and rookie Rick Porcello lead a very good pitching staff. Miguel Cabrera is having an MVP caliber year. This is a very dangerous ballclub who believes in themselves and is really starting to click on all cylinders.

6-  Tampa Bay Rays

I don't see Tampa making the playoffs this year, but only because they have the misfortune of playing in the American League East. These guys can hit from top to bottom, and if Scott Kazmir can return to his all-star form, they should remain in the playoff hunt until the bitter end.

7-  San Francisco Giants

This team can throw pitching at you, then pitching, then some more pitching, then another Cy Young winner. The lefty pitchers are the keys to this teams success. Lincecum and Cain are arguably the best pitchers in the National League, the only question about these two is which one gets the nod to start the game for the National League All Stars this season. If Johnson, Zito and Sanchez start pitching like they have in the past, and have a good second half, watch out. Pablo Sandoval is the National League Rookie of the Year and should be headed to St. Louis for the mid summer classic. Lincecum will be there, more than likely starting the game for Charlie Manuel. Nate Schierholtz is another good young player that you should keep an eye on.

8-  Philadelphia Phillies

For some inexplicable reason, the Phillies can't hit at citizens bank ballpark this season. I do expect this to change in the second half, and I look for them to outlast the Mets once again in the National League East. I can tell you right now they won't be headed back to the World Series yet again. Not with Antonio Bastardo, Jamie Moyer, and Joe pitches like hes "Blunted" in their rotation. This team can flat out mash the ball on the road though, especially with a healthy Raul Ibanez.

9-  Milwaukee Brewers

This team plays well at home, but needs to learn how to play better on the road. Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder are as good a 1-2 punch as there is anywhere right now. Yovanni Gallardo looks like the real deal. I do not see this team winning a playoff series however, if they do outlast St Louis or somehow earn the wild card.

10-  Toronto Blue Jays

Zack Greinke? Naw. Doc Halladay is the best pitcher in the American League, and the rest of the starters are doing a pretty good job. Problem is Vernon Wells has forgotten how to hit. This time will finish right around .500, which in the American League East obviously gets to a one way ticket straight to nowhere.

I'd love to sit here and bash your rankings, return the favor, etc. But to be honest, this isn't really all that different from how mine would look.

25-  San Diego Padres

Adrian Gonzalez is the only guy on this team that can hit. Tony Gwynn Jr can hit a little bit, but for none power. They have a good closer but they are just horrendous away from that joke of a National Park called Petco, where you can blast a pitch 425 feet into someones glove.

What if the fans bring their own gloves to the games?

Good stuff Nima..if I may, a thing or three:
1) It would not be a travesty if Twins OF Denard Span made it to the all-star game.
2) Dan Haren has been very good this season but his DBacks teammates refuse to hit for him when he is pitching.
3) The Oakland A's are not the second to worst baseball team in the bigs.

The Twins game yesterday. He grabbed the Cardinals by the throat and squeezed until they passed away. His start before that was also a good one.

I hate the A's. Ill admit it. But coupled with my hatred for Oakland is a belief that their current 5 game losing streak is no accident, and this belly flop will continue.

Oh...yea, when it's an incapable St. Louis offense that has shown all year they can't hit against lefties. And yet, he still ran into a heap of trouble by leaving 4 consecutive pitches up in the zone and right down the middle for the Cards to only capitalize for 2 runs, while any other start for Liriano, or any other offense would have easily been another 5 runs.

As far as his last start goes, you mean the one where he pitched 120 times in 5 innings with 5 walks..Now that's some pitching alright.

His record is still 4-8, and his ERA is still 5.62 averaging a walk every two innings. He's far too inconsistent to be considered anything dominant, and not even close to 2006 form, especially if he's going out for 3 good innings, then will implode in 7 of his last 8 starts.

Only if Denard could've avoided that ear infection that left him out for a few weeks, I think his numbers along with his defense would warrant an All-Star bid..however, there is no chance in hell for that when it's voting like it is.

And if we want to talk about Twins SP more..that Kevin Slowey guy (minus two at bats against Pujols on Saturday) is good enough to be the starting pitcher for the AL if Roy chooses to not go due to his recurring injury.

I hope Maddon starts Halladay and makes him pitch nine innings ...lol

In Pittsburgh's defense, they were actually above .500 in interleague play this year and somehow have managed to get through June without their annual double-digit losing streak.  I keep waiting for the yearly implosion, but for some reason it's not happening.  It probably will at some point, but so far it's not a complete travesty.

Seconded.

The thing is... with Halladay being the horse that he is, he wouldn't even say no. He'd just go out there and pitch. Definitely the kind of guy I'd love to have on my team any day.

In terms of power rankings, the A's are definitely in the bottom 2 or 3 in the league.  The can't hit to save their friggin' lives, and had their worst season of interleague play ever this year.  It might be time for them to become sellers, because this season is just about lost.

I'm with you Kramer...BUT we are still far from the Pirates giving their best pla- errr, the trade deadline. Man, it has to be frustrating being a true Pirates fan.

If I would have known the site won't let me go back and edit anything, I would have looked it over before I submitted it, instead of busting through this in 15 minutes.

The teams are all where they should be, just a few typos here and there. Oh well.

Worse than the DBacks and the Indians....Padres?...man I don't know about that. Some good young arms that just need to mature and some veteran hitters that could (I said could ..lol) get hot at some point.

But until that all comes together, they are where they deserve to be.  They are sputtering on all accounts right now, and those good young arms are pitching too inconsistenly while also not getting any darn run support from any of the hitters, let alone the veteran ones.  Needless to say, it's pretty frustrating to be an A's fan right now.

I ran the spell check through it and caught a few typos and stuff.  If it goes through, you should see it updated in about 5-10 mins.  As you said though, no major issues or anything.

Good thoughts, Nima.  Your Giants definitely deserve their ranking.  You overstated the case about the Cubs organization and fans, but better a strong opinion than none.

Like the post, for the most part. But I think the Rangers should be in there ahead of some NL teams like Milwaukee and ahead of the Blue Jays.

And do you really think the Giants are *that* much better than the Cardinals in the NL? I think the Giants are better pitching wise, but I don't think the Giants could beat the Cardinals in a series.

Much to BayAreaBeast's chagrin, when we discuss these rankings next week, he'll have to talk about the Rockies catching the Dodgers, because Colorado will have surpassed SF for 2nd place in the West.

I would not want some one on D who miss plays the ball and its a inside-the-park homerun. Span.

The Yankees would score a hell of alot more runs if they had Span as their leadoff man.

"Felix Hernandez is a beast"

That he is........anyways my mariners at 17 honestly i think that is a little low, only by like 1 or 2 spots......i mean we just somehow find a way to win.....and we took two of three from the best team in baseball (boston fans have a valid arguement), but all i know is if we take two of three from the Yanks and two of Three from the Sox, we very well could have a chance to challenge the Halo's...

Only time will tell though.....

Well, on night's that Lincecum is pitching, the Giants are better than at least about 95% of the rest of the league, maybe more.  If he gets run support like that, look out!

I think 17 is a good spot. They're surviving in ways now that they're just not going to be able to replicate come August.

The writer has a great point about Lopez being cleanup. In May, when the M's were slumping, Lopez was barely hitting .200 and Wakamatsu was scrambling for ANYONE they could count on to be cleanup. Now he's back to being a slightly above-average hitter, but it won't be enough. Branyan refuses to get out of the #2 spot, Griffey can't hit for average anymore, and Beltre is injured now. I see them hovering around .500 the rest of the year.

My Indians are ranked 27th??? are you dadburncottonpickin' kidding me??? That ranking is too high. They should be ranked at the bottom; BELOW the Gnats that is. I'll give you some reasons. 1) Our pitching is totally shot. Carmona cannot throw the ball to the catcher, that's why he's in rookie ball 2) Pavano is struggling mightily. When his pitches get too much of the plate he gets killed! 3) Shoppach strikes out way too much and Wedge lets him now about it. 4) WE CAN'T HIT!!! (no offense Victor and Shin Soo Choo). And our hitting got worse ever since DeRosa left for St.Louis. I wouldn't be surprised if they trade Cliff Lee for pitching prospects.
5) Peralta, dadburn they should get rid of him because he's too inconsistent; he's a streaky hitter or whatever.
Finally, I think Eric Wedge has worn out his welcome. 2 winning seasons in 7 years is totally unacceptable.
I like Eric Wedge, he's a good baseball man, but he's worn out his welcome. Look for Mike Hargrove, Bob Melvin, or Tony Pena to be managing next season.

the killer road trip that the M's are on may well make or break their season. Taking 2 out of 3 from the Dodgers is a great start but now they go to New York and Boston.....if the M's do play 500 ball the rest of the season i think that everyone in the organization will be very happy after the dismal records the past few years....The Mariners log the most travel miles of any team in the majors, this is the time of year it wears on them.....

Meh, you win some and you lose some. No big deal. I like the Giants, I hope they do well. I just don't think they are one of the top 7 teams in MLB and I think that will be borne out by the end of the season.

The Blue Jays are hanging around at the top. It's just too bad they play in the AL East with the Sox and Yanks (ranked #1 and #2 respectively in these rankings) as well as the red hot Rays. Despite how well the Jays have done so far a 4th place finish in the division is not out of the question.

The entire NL East took a beating at the hands of the AL East in interleague play....so it was probably a little tough for the Beast to get an accurate read on the NL East.
