Hello folks welcome to the inaugural Dumpster Diving fantasy blog. A blog dedicated to bringing some quick hitting advice on players that currently being under valued by the masses.
First things first, if you’re wondering what my credentials are in regards to fantasy baseball, well it doesn’t really matter at this point does it? You’ve read this far so keep reading.
*Note all ownership percentages based on standard 10 team ESPN leagues*
Ryan Church- 9.6% Ownership- With the way the Mets are dropping like flies there has to be someone that is stepping up and producing right? Well over the past 15 days, Church has been doing his best to stop the bleeding. With 9 R, 6 RBI, 2 SB, .327 AVG, .345 OBP over that span, Church is worth picking up while Carlos Beltran is on the DL.
Kurt Suzuki- 21.7% Ownership- How do 80% of fantasy managers not need a new catcher? You can blame shallow leagues for that. But a quick look at his previous 15 day totals, 8 R, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 1 SB, .309 AVG, .333 OBP, makes you wonder. Why are you still starting Russell Martin and his 7 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, .256 AVG, .418 OBP over the same time period. Suzuki is a good grab for the time being.
Mark Teahen- 16% Ownership- Position flexibility is always a nice thing in fantasy. Eligible at 3b, OF, CI and Util Teahen has some value. With 7 R, 1 HR, 6 RBI, .302 AVG, .351 OBP over the past 15 days Teahen is worthy of a Monday/Thursday spot or a solid roster filler.
David Murphy- 1.2% Ownership- In a hitter park, and a powerful lineup, his ownership should be just a bit higher. His 6 R, 5 HR, 9 RBI, 1 SB, .297 AVG, .367 OBP over the past 15 more then warrants a look.
Jordan Zimmermann- 11.4% Ownership- With 1 W, 1.42 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 9 K, 4 BB in the past two weeks, Zimmermann has officially announced his arrival to the fantasy world. With good stuff 8.92 K/9, good control 2.49 BB/9 and great command 3.57 K/BB, Zimmermann is a fantastic fantasy keeper option, and should be owned in far more leagues.
Russ Ortiz- 0.8% Ownership- It’s odd that he’s pitched this well, and his ownership numbers are so low. But given his past struggles the skepticism is warranted. But with a 3.10 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 14 K, 3 BB in his past 12.1 IP. Ortiz is a spot start guy, who is worth consideration for his next start against the Giants.
Chad Gaudin- 3.1% Ownership- 28 K, 5 BB, 2.14 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, 21 IP in the last 15. That’s enough said right there. Coming off a 1 H, 8 IP shut out of the Texas Rangers (in Arlington no less) Gaudin seems like a good pick up with solid strike out potential. His next start is against in the Dodgers who will see the return of Manny Ramirez!
Aaron Cook- 14.8% Ownership- How does a guy that doesn’t strike anyone out still manage to pick up so many wins? Especially in Coors Field? With 3 W, 2.05 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 11 K, 4 BB in his last 22 IP, Cook has been a pleasant surprise for managers who have been streaming pitchers.
Gavin Floyd- 43.8% Ownership- Despite a 10/7 K/BB ratio in his past 20.2 IP Floyd has a tiny 0.87 ERA, and a 1.06 WHIP, along with 2 W. Since May 22nd, he’s been absolutely dominant, 4 W, 46 K, 15 BB, 1.39 ERA, 0.91 WHIP in 58.2 IP. If that doesn’t say “Pick me up!” Nothing else does.
