Fantasy Info: Can Santonio Holmes be a Consistent Fantasy Producer?
READ MORE:
NFL
Last season I thought Santonio Holmes was primed for star dome in Pittsburgh. By the end of the super bowl, I suppose that prediction was an accurate one, as he won the MVP title in the big game.

While it is true that Santonio had a great game, some fantasy owners (like my Dad) would have rather seen him flop in that contest. To see a player you selected on your fantasy team, play great in the big game, while he cost you a playoff bid is a killer.

I can still hear my Dad saying, "you jerk, why couldn't you of done that all season!"

Pittsburgh has always been a run-based team so Holmes' stats are going to be inconsistent. Plus the Steelers D usually holds the opponents scoring down, which means the Steelers don't need to pass as much. They just grind it out on the ground. I've gotten stuck with Holmes before and you cannot consistently rely on him to help your fantasy team. I'm sure your Dad will not draft him this year.

The question isn't whether Holmes can be a consistent fantasy player. In the post season he was and it comes down to what Hines Ward does. If he's hurt, Holmes becomes the #1 receiver and Big Ben will get him the ball. I think Pittsburgh is poised to become a more balanced offense. The running game has been great in the past but FWP has been hurt last 2 years and Mendenhal is unproven. I think Holmes puts it all together and continues his progress and he's worth the risk if he does some PR duty.

Yes Holmes would be the No.1 if Ward went down. But Ward is as tuff as nails, it will take a major injury to keep him off the field.

Hines Ward is as tough as they come. But if he gets an injury like he did in the playoffs and maybe struggles a bit then Santonio will obviously be the go to guy. Ward will get touches but Holmes will be the better option. Every year Tone gets better and I think he breaks out and has at least 1100 yds and over 5 tds. I think that both receivers has a chance to get 1000 yards now that Holmes and Ward are still performing well.
