Ferguson expects Hernandez and Ferdinand to stay at Man Utd
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to handover Javier Hernandez a rare start along with Rio Ferdinand in Monday’s potentially title-winning game against Aston Villa. The Scotsman claims he expected the striker and the defender to remain at the club next season, although both have been linked exits from Old Trafford.
Javier Hernandez has found it difficult to feature in Manchester United’s first-team since the arrival of Robin van Persie. Due to this reason, the Mexico international is pondering over an away move.
The 24-year-old has already attracted interest from top clubs in Europe. Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho was keen on bringing Javier Hernandez to Santiago Bernabeu last summer. Other potential suitors for Javier Hernandez include Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.
Manchester United’s plan to secretly acquire Radamel Falcao this summer seems to have imploded since the Colombian hit-man is uninterested in moving away from the club and is Javier Hernandez is eager to move out of Old Trafford.
In spite of being placed on the bench for most of the season, Javier Hernandez can boast about an impressive tally which includes 16 goals. Sir Alex Ferguson insists his Mexican star is an asset for Manchester United which is why he would like him to remain at the club.
“There is no reason to think this is not the place for him [Hernandez],” Sir Alex Ferguson said. “We hope he feels as though he has made a contribution. He has scored 16 goals. When he came on the other night [at West Ham] his movement was terrific. He created a lot of openings for us.
“I thought we were pretty unlucky not to win it. Their goalkeeper made a couple of saves, one shot was cleared off the line and he was very unlucky with a header. Hernandez has got these things in his locker all the time. His enthusiasm to play is always there.”
Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand has stepped closer to calling quits on his career at Manchester United. Presently, the England international is stalling a year-long extension on his contract. Sir Alex Ferguson is sure Rio Ferdinand will return ink the contract extension at the end of the season.
“I’ve spoken to Rio,” Sir Alex Ferguson said. “At this moment in time, he's more concerned about getting opposition for his testimonial game. He's working on that for the moment.
“We want him to stay and obviously I’m sure his representatives will be discussing things with [Chief Executive] David Gill. I wouldn't imagine that [moving abroad] would be the best thing for him.”
