Ferguson plans to stay with Man Utd for another “decade of success”
Sir Alex Ferguson has led Manchester United to glory no one could have ever imagined. In his 26 years of dominance in Europe, the Scotsman has won all kinds of silverware. Now the gaffer has warned his rivals about Manchester United’s plans for the future.
The Old Trafford boss claims Manchester United is planning for another “decade of success”. In the midst of traditional season-ending rumors about his impending departure from Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson admits he is preparing to build on Manchester United’s recent title success.
Reports have confirmed Sir Alex Ferguson is scheduled for a hip surgery this summer. Apart from this news, the Scotsman seems to be reveling in fine health. In a recent interview to United Review, Sir Alex Ferguson declared that he had no plans to walk away from the club.
Sir Alex Ferguson said that he was keen leading and getting the best out of his latest generation of young players.
“This team of champions is not going away - we are here for the long ride,” Sir Alex Ferguson said. “We will get better and if we apply ourselves in our normal fashion I see our 20th league title as nothing but the start of another decade of success.
“Whether I will be here to oversee another decade of success remains to be seen, but I certainly don't have any plans at the moment to walk away from what I believe will be something special and worth being around to see.
“It's always difficult in football to be absolutely sure of the future because the game has a habit of tripping you up. But I don't live in a fantasy world and believe we have every reason to feel confident about the future of Manchester United.”
Meanwhile, the in-form Dutchman Robin van Persie has decided to enter the next season with the same No. 20 jersey. The 29-year-old striker, who has spearheaded Manchester United to their 20th Premier League title, has been offered the No. 9 jersey, which was being worn by Dimitar Berbatov when he arrived at the club.
However, Robin van Persie seems to have decided upon saving his fans some trouble by continuing to wear the No. 20 jersey.
“I think I'll keep it,” Robin van Persie told the United Review. “I have the option to take number nine but I don't think I will do that. I'll stick with what is right and what feels good.
“Also, I don't want to be harsh on the fans who have got number 20 on their kit. I don't want them to have to buy a new shirt. It's been a good number for me and now I can at least celebrate the 20th trophy for another year. I'll stick with it.”
