Fernando Tatis is the only player ever to hit 2 grand slams in 2 innings. And after last night, he has single-handedly won at least 3 games for the Mets this season. If it weren't for several years of (literally) nothing, this guy might have put together quite a career.Tatis hit 2 HR's and drove in 4 runs, and was a huge part in the Mets' 6-5 win over the Padres. Tatis and the Mets overcame 3 HR's by the Padres (Jody Gerut, Kevin Kouzmanoff and Adrian Gonzalez) to get the win, and pull to within 2 games of the NL East-leading Phillies.
Alfonso Soriano is officially back, healthy, and ready to lead the Cubs into the playoffs. He went 3-5, with 2 runs and 4 RBI, including a 3-run HR in the Cubs' 5-run 7th inning. The Cubs went on to beat the Astros 11-7. Mark DeRosa added 3 more RBI, and Derek Lee had 4 hits for the Cubbies, who are now 5 games ahead of the 2nd-place Brewers in the NL Central.
Nick Swisher was the hero in Chicago, as he hit a 3-run HR in the 14 inning to clinch a 10-8 victory over the Tigers. The Tigers had taken an 8-7 lead in the top of the inning, but Swisher's bomb off of Joel Zumaya ended the game with 2 outs in the bottom of the 14th.
Placido Polanco homered twice for the Tigers in the loss.
