There is a great rift of points between him and Sebastian Vettel, who leads up front however the Spaniard was happy with his performance at the German circuit.

Alonso was content with his feat admitting that there was no way he could surpass the Briton, Lewis Hamilton to finish first. The 29-year-old praised Hamilton’s timely pit stop hailing it as the reason behind the victory.

Alonso was impressive throughout the race. Though the race day weather hinted heavens would break water from the sky any moment the track remained dry, nevertheless it wouldn’t have mattered much to Alonso who previously has shown meticulous driving skills in variable conditions.

In the race Alonso started 4th but before two shakes of a lamb’s tail he had jumped in front of the table-leading German, Vettel. Still, an unforced error in Ferrari gave the Red Bull driver a chance to pull back the lead.

Lady Luck however decided to favor the Spaniard and on turn one Alonso passed ahead of Vettel yet again. Later he jumped ahead of Mark Webber too who was being serviced in the pit. Nonetheless Alonso was far from reaching for the top spot. Alonso had simply allowed Hamilton with too much distance which he was unable to recover later.

Hence Hamilton pulled of the final stint with fashion on his McLaren with medium tyre. Later Alonso also accepted that his car was less superior on prime compound therefore he had to settle in for the 2nd spot.

In a post match press release the Ferrari driver commented on the race saying, “I think in the last stint we could not get any closer to Lewis. I think with the medium tyres we were not too quick so we just controlled the gap with Mark and secured second place. For us it was a fantastic race, a fantastic Sunday again. We struggled a little bit in qualy being fourth yesterday but today again the car showed great pace and great degradation with the tyres so we can keep the pace of the leaders. We jumped Vettel on the track and Mark in the pit stop and it was great.”

Alonso also rejected claims of being frustrated on the podium. He told media that he was satisfied with his form. Alonso said that he was pleased with his 3 consecutive finishes at the top two positions although he hoped the next one would be at the top of them all.

Alonso who last won the British Grand Prix this season stated on his form, “The second place (in Germany), after the win in Silverstone and the second place in Valencia, it is definitely a good moment in the championship for us, so next week (in Hungary) we have another opportunity.”

With 9 races left in the season, Vettel leads the charge with 216 points. He is being followed by his team mate Mark Webber at 139. Hamilton is trailing him with 134 points while two times world champion, Alonso is breathing down his neck with 130 points.
