Fiesta Bowl Live Thread: #3 Texas Longhorns vs #10 Ohio State Buckeyes
The Fiesta Bowl, Where Texas Takes Out Their Frustrations On Super-Frosh Terrelle Pryor [Live Thread]
The Ohio State Buckeys are already 0-2 against teams who made it to BCS bowls, and are ready to make it 0-3. Normally in BCS bowls, you have a sense that it will at least be a competitive game. As much as everyone was counting out Utah, at least Utah deserved to be there. While Ohio State has only 2 losses, it's hard to find anyone who was truly impressed with their play this year.

The Buckeyes got rocked when they played USC, and lost to Penn State as well, who also got smothered by the Trojans. Their most impressive win was over Michigan State, who lost to Georgia in their bowl game.

Regardless of what happened in their respective bowl games, there is no doubt whatsever that Boise State and Texas Tech were more deserving of a BCS bowl than Ohio State.

In fact, allowing Boise State into a BCS bowl could have fixed the current nightmare that the BCS has on their hands, since their win over Alabama has everyone furious with the BCS, while a win over Boise State would have been far less controversial in the end.

Regardless, this is your official live thread for tonights Fiesta Bowl, which features all-world QB Colt McCoy and the Texas Longhorns against Terrelle Pryor and the Ohio State Buckeyes. If you're watching the game (8 pm EST on FOX), then feel free to chat about it here with your fellow FanIQers.

83% picked Texas to win this one, but I'm calling it a lock. I'll take the Longhorns by at least 2 TD's. They're pissed off about a perceived National Championship snub, and they're ready to try and prove it. Oh yeah... and they're just a much better team.

Chat it up here or on the game page, and always, enjoy the game!

If I were Jim Tressel, I would remove all of the helmet stickers for this game. None of their players has accomplished anything significant in a BCS bowl, and I think that a fresh start is exactly what they need. After watching their montage, where they had all these guys with helmets covered with stickers, it made it clear to me that they need to take them all away, and REALLY make them earn them. Maybe it would provide a little extra motivation.

Notice I said "Regardless of what happened in their respective bowl games".

Can you honestly say that, before the bowl games, Ohio State had a better resume than either of those teams? Absolutely not.

I understand that Texas Tech was SOL due to the rules about having 3 in a conference. But there's really no valid reason for Boise State getting snubbed, other than the almighty dollar.

And now, I bet the BCS is wishing they let Utah and Boise State play each other and then let Texas play Alabama. That would have produced a much more BCS-friendly result than the Utah win over Alabama.

Tech got raped by Ole Miss what are you talking about? I'm just glad they weren't in a BCS bowl or I'd have to watch them humiliate themselves even more.

I would have liked to see Utah/Boise.
Texas would have rolled Alabama (like they might but hopefully won't tonight)

And of course, something I forgot to mention in my first reply is that Ohio State is going to similar prove their worth tonight. I think that even you would admit that.

Do you mean Utah beating Alabama this year or Boise State beating Oklahoma last year? Boise State has not played Alabama as far as I can recall, but many would say I am biased and forget a lot of things since I am an Ohio State fan.

I mean that if they had paired up Utah and Boise State in a BCS bowl, they would still be able to pretend that Utah didn't deserve a chance to play in the National Championship, because Utah would have blown out Boise State, instead of beating Alabama convincingly. Although it would have been impressive, it wouldn't have been as influential as their win over Alabama.

OSU takes the early  lead, 3-0. I'm going to stick with my original prediction and say that Texas will roll in this one, and this drive will be the beginning of the end for the Buckeyes. The Longhorns will take the lead here, and never look back.

Texas wins this game, Big 10 was exposed by there best team being drilled by USC. Prior to the games I really thought we should have had a Texas and Alabama match up. I know the ala. loss to Utah kinda messed that all up. Could be 4 teams staking claim to the championship if texas wins. even a plus one would not settle this. So if Obama can get a playoff I will vote for him for re-election. LOL   just think, Penn state and Alabam were each just one game away from playing in the championship.

Did Ohio State not know Texas was going to run the hurry-up offense at some point?

The real question is... does it matter either way? As good as tOSU's defense is... could they stop it, even if they knew it was coming? They HAD to know it was... right?

They knew Juice Williams was going to run the football last year on that last drive on almost every down, but it didn't stop Juice from humiliating OSU at home.  Can't stop what you can't handle, OSU should know better by now.

OSU just got a field goal, woopty f'ing doo!  TD's not FG are needed to out gun UT.

Yeah, you're right.  I was just shocked to see the the whole defense out of breath like that.

Everything has to go just right for a Big Ten team to score (any points) in a BCS game.  That's the sad state of the conference.  They need to be able to throw the freakin' ball down the field consistently.  The "three yards and a cloud of dust" mentality is tired thinking.

I am not a texas fan but I am a Titans fan.....ironic that ohio state has a vince young protoytpe in pryor.  Good athlete...not a quarterback.  defense is tired.....texas eating them up now....need more shots of the blonde

OSU's D is making plays, but just not enough and when needed most.

Pryor drops backs looks deep, throws...right into the ground...pathetic

1/5/09

Ohio State completely controlled the first half, and now is falling apart defensively.  Pryor will have to step up for Ohio State to stay in it.

1/5/09

Does anyone else feel like Pryor isn't even running fast when he passes the line of scrimmage?  He just has a natural gift for running the ball, if only he could be consistent in the passing game....he has to develop that over the next few years

They better not end up kicking another field goal here.

He would do some times during the season. It's like he forgets he's not playing against high school kids that he can just jog past.

I have Texas -8, so I'm hoping they only get a FG here, and then UT marches down the field for a TD. That would be nice.

Pryor is so quick, but he is the main weapon this half.  Any word on Wells?

Texas has too many weapons for them.

Am I watching the same game you all are? The comments I'm reading is how the D is falling apart and how the offense is pathetic...OSU is down 8 points, 7:35 left in the 4th Quarter against Texas, a team that many many people had a case for to be in the NC game.

I was with most everyone else when I thought it would be atleast 2 TD's, probably 30-40 points when it was all said and done...truth is, OSU is hanging around, and still easily has a shot late in the game. While I agree they were not worthy of even being in the game, they're doing better than anyone expected.

Excellent play there by OSU. Terrelle Pryor just found his future.

No doubt in my mind that they should go for 2 here, by the way.

The D isn't terrible, just tired. Hopefully this last OSU drive will get them rested. They can't let Texas run the clock down.

Nope, take the one point. Then you're up by 5. If Texas scores, they're up by 2, and a last second field goal by OSU wins.
Now should Texas score and OSU get a last second field goal try it would only tie the game.

Meh, i guess i can understand it...4 or 5 makes absolutely no difference, but you make it 6, and the XP comes into play if Texas scores a TD.

Almost as bad as Tressel going for two for no good reason was the Fox Sports crew.  Josh Lewin, the play-by-play guy was acting like the game was over.  One twenty yard pass by Ohio State and they could have gone for a game-tying field goal.

I still haven't seen a team as good as Utah, maybe there will be one on Thursday night.

Same with their win over Ohio State. Their win over Oklahoma State wasn't exactly convincing either.

After the sloppy play of Texas tonight and the minimally deserved win, USC will undoubtedly be #2 in the final polls behind the winner of the BCS game. Guess the BCS at least got it right putting OU ahead of Texas.
