For those of you who I haven't told, I have taken the challenge of a Fitness Boot Camp. Boot Camp Web Site I started the five-week program on April 7th. Here is my account of the experience. Hope you enjoy!
Hey all. I thought I'd send out an email to all of you who laughed, chuckled, or passed out when I let you know I was taking the Fitness Boot Camp Challenge.
Well, I survived Day #1. I think I woke up about every hour last night in fear that I would sleep in. That won't be an issue tonight.
Honestly, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. That statement in no-way means that I think I'm in shape. (On the application it asked us to list our fitness level on a scale of 1 to 10. I listed 4 - I was lying.) It also does not mean that there weren't doubts about my completion of the first hour. But....I made it.
We started out jogging in place. That would be the highlight of my morning. I'm good at jogging in place. ha ha.
We did about 10 minutes of push-ups. The first two sets I think I did pretty well on. After that, they were sketchy at best. Mid-way through I was on my knees. At this point in time, I had no shame. We did the diamond push-ups at the end. I probably did about 4 (on my knees) of the group's 15. (Hey, I thought one out of every three was pretty reasonable at that stage in the game!) In between each set of push-ups we did sky presses. ha ha.
After push-ups and water break, we did the squats portion of the morning.. Again, I started off OK, but that went away very quickly. It was during this segment that I thought last night's meal would not last. This segment seemed to last forever. From squats to hopping to hopping squats to squat kicks to jumping jacks. I think the jumping jacks were my shining moment of the morning. ha ha. Of course, I was way off-beat with the instructor, but I rocked those jumping jacks. We did 50 and I probably did 60. Woo Hoo!! I might need to send Mr. Markley, my elementary school gym teacher, a thank you note.
After the squats, he decided we needed to run. I was quite certain that my dinner would come back to haunt me. My 10 sprints probably resembled a drunken stupor to the untrained eye. But, again, I survived.
Three hours later, I'm actually not as sore as I thought I would be. In the shower, my arms were a tad fatigued. (I never realized the top of my head was so far away from my shoulders! I must have the longest neck ever!!) I imagine that I will be hating life tonight and in the morning. I may have to invest in some Advil.
I'll keep you all posted. Only 14 more sessions to go. I will also start a running list of all the names I called Fletcher (out-loud and in my head) for talking me into this.
Have a great week!
Ryan
